20 People Poisoned in Buffet Breakfast

Cambodia news in English! Here you'll find all the breaking news from Cambodia translated into English for our international readership and expat community to read and comment on. The majority of our news stories are gathered from the local Khmer newspapers, but we also bring you newsworthy media from Cambodia before you read them anywhere else. Because of the huge population of the capital city, most articles are from Phnom Penh, but Siem Reap, Sihanoukville, and Kampot often make the headlines as well. We report on all arrests and deaths of foreigners in Cambodia, and the details often come from the Cambodian police or local Khmer journalists. As an ASEAN news outlet, we also publish regional news and events from our neighboring countries. We also share local Khmer news stories that you won't find in English anywhere else. If you're looking for a certain article, you may use our site's search feature to find it quickly.

I’ve been there many times. I don’t know how they can do it at $6.99 a person, especially with shrimp and other items that are not cheap.

I think it’s so easy to get sick if you’re not cooking the food well. Plus everyone is using chopsticks to cook the meat and eat it. So many chances for contamination.

My neighbors said there is more to it - that Srey Kouch had loaned $6000 to a pretty well known Khmer lady. About a week before these food poisoning allegations she posted and shamed her on her Facebook. So the timing is suspicious.

In Belgium, a good turning fries-shop (Frituur) changes or at least filters oil (or beef-fat) daily. Sometimes i go to the same kind of places in France, even just over the border to eat their (french)-fries, and they are horrible often, just because they reuse the oil for days or weeks. As long as you fire it up really high (+150) i think the possibility to get sick from itare little, but ofcourse the street-shops you never know. Depends also how good they turn, i think some percentage from the oil just dissapears in de food and you have to add always oil to make some new fried chicken, no idea to be honnest. Gonna ask one of my friends here in Belgium who has such a bussiness !! ??
My belgian friend with the chips-business explained me that about 5% of your fat (our oil) goes into the chips while frying them. With meat its different he says. He uses 30 kgs of fat to fry and every 600 kgs they are gone, but offcourse he refills every day and after 1000 kgs chips everything is trowed away and new 30 kgs come in it. He has a special filter system on it where every day its pumped through to make it cleaner and last longer !!

Just logged on to adjust my old comment after viewing movie below (Facebook but no log on needed, do not have an account myself). From Vietnam but practices in Cambodia might be the same, this ice is meant for cooling fish.

I genuinely never bothered about ice as usually factory made, but there exist several qualities as used for drinks (cubes/1000R/kilo) or as cooling ice for transporting fish etc. Unscrupulous sellers might just sell you the 5 times cheaper latter as potable former cut off these large blocks (200R/kilo or something like that). Or might not even know themselves. So smell the glass/ice before pouring your drink in if not cubes, as a cut off piece from large blocks can be either. Although the ones used for consumption should be whiter.
