This is where our community discusses almost anything! While we're mainly a Cambodia expat discussion forum and talk about expat life here, we debate about almost everything. Even if you're a tourist passing through Southeast Asia and want to connect with expatriates living and working in Cambodia, this is the first section of our site that you should check out. Our members start their own discussions or post links to other blogs and/or news articles they find interesting and want to chat about. There was a story on there recently, which I didn't actually read, that upset some officials. It could be related.

Could it be the one titled "Cambodia's sham election"
The opening paragraph
Later this month, Cambodia will hold national elections for parliament. However, compared to some previous periods like the early 2010s when there were credible opposition parties—albeit with the deck stacked against them—and opposition parties won considerable numbers of seats in parliament, this time around the election looks more like what you would see in Saddam’s Iraq. The government has banned the main opposition party, the Candlelight Party—an earlier iteration of which had actually seriously threatened the government’s hold on parliament in prior elections.

In a nation run by swine, all pigs are upward-mobile and the rest of us are fucked until we can put our acts together: not necessarily to win, but mainly to keep from losing completely. HST

Last week the government ordered internet service providers to block the websites (
@cambodiadaily, @RadioFreeAsiaKH, @RadioFreeAsia & @kamnotra) & social media pages of several independent media outlets. #Cambodia will hold its general election on Sunday.

Government Orders Internet Providers to Block Media Outlets, Kamnotra Database
The government ordered internet service providers to block the websites and social media pages of several independent media outlets and a public database in a July 12 document obtained by CamboJA on Monday.

The Telecommunications Regulator of Cambodia-issued document sought to cut off access inside the country to the Cambodia Daily, Radio Free Asia and the newly launched public database Kamnotra, run by the Cambodian Center for Independent Media (CCIM).

The media and database had “broadcast information to make confusion, affect the government’s honor and prestige, and failed to fulfill the operating conditions of the Information Ministry,” an unofficial translation of the document stated.

Service providers were told to block access to the Instagram and Twitter accounts of the Cambodia Daily, the Twitter account of Kamnotra, and the Youtube channel of the Cambodia Daily.
