How'd the first one go?

I'm not into metal either but it's never been a problem when I've been there. Nice people and good beer is more important to most of their customers than the background music which is played at a reasonable level and doesn't overly distract from conversation.

You can ways get their beer at embargo if metal is that offensive to you though.

I live in a small twon in Belgium, and we have the biggest metal-festival from europe, the line up is pretty similar as the one from hell-fest. I am not really in metal-music, but the vibe at the festival is crazy. I wouldnt bet on a bar like this in PPs, bussiness-model, for sure there are people overhere who love the music, but the average PP-expat i think is to old to do so wheel-chair-crowd-surfing in Phnom Penh. Probably i will give it a go when i am back in town. Head-ache guaranteed the day after. I would think one of the secrets from Oscars success is that they do a lot of music from the 80s and if you see the average age from the people inside, it explains everything !! Cheers !!

There are loads of Khmer kids into both those genres

Phnom Penh has a fairly vibrant metal community since probably around 2012-ish. The local scene grew with 'harder' live music, and it's only gotten better from there. Showbox, Oscar's, Slur Bar, Equinox and more slightly became the hub of metal shows, but the community is still going strong at Cloud and Oscar's, good venues for local and the occasional international heavy metal band that come through

We're all about the music, with metal coming from the stereo and TV, at the perfect volume where you can jam out and still chat with your friends. Craft beer reigns supreme, and our community is always ready to indulge in the local craft beer delights, with members from some of the metal bands in Phnom Penh who frequent the bar. We've still got you covered with cans of Cambodia and spirits and mixers if you're not into the stronger beers
