Cambodia News, (Phnom Penh): On 27 June, 2023, a math teacher was arrested after receiving a complaint from the parents of one of the man's female students involving sex with a minor in a guesthouse.

Sources said that the suspect, Oum Vuthy, a 43-year-old male, was a math teacher at Bek Chan Knong Secondary School in Kandal Province.

The accused is a 8th and 9th grade math teacher, who is accused of seducing and having a sexual relationship with one of his 15-year-old female students. The relationship began in March 2023, when the teacher and pupil began to have secret chats on Messenger and to meet for kisses and cuddles in the school room. Later, the suspect asked the victim to come to a guesthouse to have sex with each other. This happened on several occasions, until June 26, 2023, when the girl stayed at home from school with a fever, and the father heard his daughter talking to the teacher on the phone. He made his daughter tell him everything and he went to file a complaint at the Ang Snoul District Police Inspectorate.


After receiving the complaint, the specialized force, in cooperation with the Bek Chan police force, arrived at the scene and called the suspect to the district police station for questioning. He confessed, but said that he was in love with his student and only had sex with her once. He has been remanded in custody.
