Cyber-Police Arrest Cambodian Trio in $100K Bank Hacking

Cambodia News, (Phnom Penh): On June 22, 2023, the Anti-Cyber Crime Department, in cooperation with the Phnom Penh Municipal Police, cracked down on a group of suspects involved in a case of hacking into a bank account and withdrawing a total of more than US$ 100,000.

Major General Sok Nithya, Director of the Department of Technology Crimes, led the direct command in the investigation following allegations by the victim of US$100,400 stolen from a bank account through internet fraud.

As a result, police have detained three suspects, including a mother and her son :
1. Hun Chan Sopheak, male, 28 years old, a known suspect in connection with cases of fraud and identity forgery
2. Loeung Sokunthea, the mother of Hun Chan Sopheak, is the gang cashier, and she used the stolen money to buy gold from three gold shops in Phnom Penh
3. Sinath Sina, 32 years old, is also known to police for previous cases of fraud and forgery, as well as drug offenses.

Currently, the police officers are building a case to deal with the trio.
