Police Nab Bus Stop Snatchers
Cambodia News (Phnom Penh): The Ministry of Interior's Serious Crime Bureau hunted down a suspect after he snatched property off people who were waiting for the bus at the intersection of Street 217, Sangkat Veal Vong, Khan 7 Makara, Phnom Penh at 5:00am on 17 June 2023.
Previously, on 20 May 2023, the suspect had snatched a necklace from an Indian man, along Street 376, Village 8, Sangkat Boeung Keng Kang 3, Khan Boeung Keng Kang, Phnom Penh, and fled the scene on his motorbike. The suspect's name is Hean Pheakkey, 24 years old, and his occupation and residence are unknown.
Following the orders of Dr. Neth Savoeun, the National Police Commissioner, Major General Cheav Vibol organized police patrols in the vulnerable areas, and with instructions to particularly watch the bus stops. Sure enough, police spotted 4 suspects on motorbikes, who were snatching mobile phones from foreigners waiting for the bus in the same area where the previous incident occurred.
When they saw the police, the thieves rode off on their motorbikes, chased by the patrol up to the Lok Sang Hospital in Khan Sen Sok, where one of the suspects was arrested and taken into custody. Police are now tracking down the rest of the gang of thieves.
