Bank Staff Foil Online Scam - ACLEDA Bank Has No Lottery !

Post by CEOCambodiaNews »

A bank worker posts a reply here to a would-be scammer on social media, but perhaps they should have alerted the authorities ?

Cambodia News (Phnom Penh) 12 June 2023: An online scammer looking for a victim accidentally targeted a bank worker, who exposed the trickster on social media.

The fraudster disguised under the name of an ACLEDA Bank Telegram account initially texted to Marin Ya: " $ 1,000 worth of 5 prizes for give away to ACLEDA customers!” The scammer then asked the target whether they own an ACLEDA 096 account, to which the bank worker replied No.
However, the scammer persisted and sent another message, saying: "To be able to receive the $ 1,000 bonus, you must first provide the correct ACLEDA account number, such as name, date of birth, and most importantly, your bank "password".

This blatant attempt at "phishing" their bank account personal details provoked an angry rely from Marin Ya, ACLEDA Bank worker, who posted on Facebook:
"Digital thief‼ ️ Please be informed that ACLEDA Bank has no lottery. People beware! ACLEDA bank does not have staff calling or messaging to ask the customer's date of birth or password. You must never give these away."
