And getting a big bus onto Battambang?
I know pax used to get herded to an out of town bus station with higher prices for taxis and buses. Does this still happen?

If you want to make it to PP same day, you will need to leave PP by around 4 pm in van.

Before that there are plenty of departures in the morning, going to PP = Battambang. Also plenty of Vans. You need to leave the immediate area following the entry point. Late last year the scenery had changed due to the destroyed casino. It was necessary to take a motobike taxi for a dollar or 40 baht to get down to the main road. The detour in the heat is not good for walking. Battambang should be no prob.

Visa on arrival now on the 2nd floor in the new building. Prices posted. Much less hassle compared to 10 years ago. Do not buy the visa on the Thai side at the consulate. Dont talk to anyone until you're out of the checkpoint. Walk a few meters and pick a motorbike a bit outside the arrival area. Drivers will try to renegotiate on arrival, so exact change needed. You might like to leave the drivers 20-30 meters off from the bus company so they wont charge the company with you paying their cut.

Last bus out of Poipet to PP around 9 - 9.30 pm. Battambang bus station around 12-1am. With the improvements of the road it is getting faster with time. The new road is almost finished until Battambang, just a few spots with construction as of January.

Maybe try passapp, or isn it working in Poipet ??
Is Koh Kong not an option for you ?? If coming from bangkok its about the same distance and i crossed Koh Kong 27 december, very nice and friendly people, both sides of the border, and i deed, soMe guys with carts run in nomandsland overthere !!

Tuk tuk sucks around the border. You can give passapp a shot but choose a pickup location away from the border entrance bc of the tuk tuk syndicate around that area.. i havent tried the buses but there are a bunch of them prior to the big aba on the main road. There are also the car scalpers that will take you to battabang or other locations but they always seem sketchy to me. I use the shared taxis or van which you can find on fbook..

Google.maps time is surprisingly correct, it is an average time from everybody who uses google.maps. As i did the trip all the way from europe, i always checked, and because i have i nice Lexus and nobody cares for speeding in Thailand (outside of Patong),I WAS 15% faste. I didnt want to do the trip from Pattaya to Phnom Penh in one day, took a night in Koh Kong, 20 dollar hotel just over the border. And continued the day after. If maps say 10.5 hours i uselly counted the same time, but incluiding all the smaller brakes, cofffee, petrol, pee, wee, as long as you dont stop for food in a restaurant, it worked very fine for me all the way. The roadworks from the border to the main road are indeed going on in decmeber, but because hardly traffic, no problem in my eyes. ooh yes, maps was wrong on the new toll-road, because hardly anyone takes it using maps i think . . . If you leave early Pattaya you will be sunset in PP if you dont have to do customs-clearance from your car at the border.
