Cambodia News (Battambang): On Thursday, 8 June 2023, at 22:30, a man was arrested for scamming buyers of diesel by diluting the diesel canisters with water before selling them. The man was arrested Veal Chheak Lit in O'Pong Moan village, Ta Kream commune, Banan district, adjacent to Thmor Koul district. while he was transporting fuel containers for sale.

The suspect, Kun Sokheng, a 19-year-old male resident of Prey Toteung Village, was brought for questioning at the District Police Inspectorate, who confiscated the motorbike and the four 30-liter fuel containers.

The arrest followed a complaint received by Thmor Koul District Police on 25 May 2023, from a man named Chheng Him, living in Thmor Koul District, Battambang Province. He stated that he had bought diesel from the above suspect on 24 May 2023 at 18:20 hrs at Krous village, Anlong Run commune, Thmor Koul district; the suspect sold him 30 liters of diesel for 180,000 riels (about US$43.50). The suspect said that the diesel was obtained from a construction company, and he was able to sell it cheaply because he was the machine operator there. After handing over the money, the man drove away with the containers.

But when the buyer arrived home, he realized that the seiier had diluted the diesel with water, because he saw all the diesel was floating at the top and the water was below. After receiving this complaint, the police conducted a search until the target was identified and found at the above point while he was transporting 4 more containers of diesel mixed with water to sell to the villagers.

When questioned, the suspect confessed that he had committed such acts four times before the police arrested him.

Diesel costs less than $1 at most all filling stations so idk about those numbers

It's more likely that he sold the watered down stuff for 18000 riel per 30l imo and the article is wrong because the average journalist here is a fucktard

Par for the course

In the past I have had to get quite inventive to monitor fuel levels overnight when in charge of a heavy fleet

Drivers steal fuel and oil every chance they get, regardless of vehicle type

I have caught an excavator operator pulling the "whoops, I just slewed around and this stick burst the fuel hose" - a quick walk of the perimeter turned up 300l decanted into 30l drums hidden behind a bush

Instant dismissal and no pay, but also no police

Wait so people are buying red diesel (high sulfur content) and running cars on it?

Thought fuel was colored red because its tax free as a way to easily spot it when doing spot checks on vehicles tanks?

Why wouldn't you be able to drive a car on it?

Think it's all the same diesel here, certainly my machines ran green diesel

Red diesel cleaning is big illicit business in UK and Euro countries though

Still fucked if they dip your tank whether it's cleaned of the red or not

Red diesel in europe is exactly the same quality, just added colour to the normal-one.
I ve been illegal driving on it for "some time", never had problems with it, but belgian customs do check that, never saw checks in spain or france on it.
An retired belgian customs-officer told em ounce, what would you prefere you to do all day, check some paperwork or checking smelly diesel all day ?? They only did when they had to check it from the big guys upstairs !!.
Truckdrivers in Cambodia are seen as "rather good payed", when i asked why, the answer was, they sell diesel to at least double their wages . . .

All European "Diesel" is not the same.
The difference between low sulfur diesel and high sulfur diesel lies in their sulfur content and the impact they have on the environment and engine performance. Low sulfur diesel, such as Ultra Low Sulfur Diesel (ULSD), has a sulfur content of 10 ppm (0.001%). This lower sulfur content reduces the emission of sulfur dioxide, which is a catalytic poison and contributes to the degradation of an engine's emission control systems. Sulfur dioxide is also one of the atmospheric pollutants responsible for acid rain.

High sulfur diesel, on the other hand, has a higher sulfur content, which can lead to increased emissions of sulfur compounds and negatively impact the environment and engine performance. In the past, diesel fuels contained higher sulfur levels, but advancements in refining processes and changes in fuel standards have led to a significant reduction in sulfur content in modern diesel fuels.

European red diesel has varying sulfur content depending on its class, with Class A2 having a lower sulfur content (10 ppm) and Class D having a higher sulfur content (1,000 ppm). The main difference between low sulfur diesel and high sulfur diesel is their sulfur content and the impact they have on the environment and engine performance.

What this have to do with it being red?

Red color is used all over the world to show that its tax free gas/diesel used for specific purposes such as agriculture so that authorities can easily spot it if its used for wrong purposes such as a private car when opening the lid and checking.

You ever seen gas sellers on the street with red liquid here in Cambodia? That is tax relieved gas that is illegally being sold for private consumers when the farmers sell some of to make extra money on the side. Nothing to do with sulfur.
