India's National Assembly is Decorated with Proud Copy of "Churning of the Sea of Milk"
Cambodia News (India): India has recently officially inaugurated a new National Assembly building, with a beautifully decorated carving of the Ramayana scene of the Churning of the Sea of Milk, which is an inspired copy of the Khmer original work which can be seen at Angkor Wat.
The artwork has won the admiration of Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Naresh Kumawat, the artist and the person behind the sculpture, said: “The Churning of the Sea of Milk is 22.8 meters long and 2.7 meters high, which is inspired and modeled after the bas relief at the Cambodia’s Angkor Wat temple. He added: "I am very lucky to have carved a statue for the new National Assembly building, including the statue of the eight arms (amrit) and especially the statue of the sea of milk. For this, we have carefully discussed with the Ministry of Culture and our Arts Center because we do not want to have a different carving from the original image at Angkor Wat.
India's new parliament building was built at a cost of hundreds of millions of US dollars, can accommodate 888 members and is equipped with modern facilities.
