Cambodia News, (Phnom Pen): On 10 May, 2023, a large male buffalo ran into HE Chumpouvorn High School in Chumpouvorn village, Choam Chao commune Third, Khan Por Senchey, Phnom Penh, and chased away teachers and students, injuring one teacher at 2:15 p.m. He was eventually captured by the People's Defense Forces after chasing teachers and students around the school playing field.

When the incident occurred, some students were studying and some were not yet in class and were sitting around on the campus, when the buffalo entered the school grounds and ran towards the crowd. The animal was very agressive, chasing the student and teachers. One teacher was injured by the buffalo, and everyone retreated to a safe place.

After injuring the teacher, the buffalo ran away but did not leave the campus. Meanwhile, the victim was sent to the hospital and the techers called the authorities of Sangkat Choam Chao III, asking them to intervene at the school. So the people's defense force of Choam Chao III commune, armed with ropes and long sticks, went out to catch the buffalo, but it took several hours to catch it because the buffalo was too fierce to get close to and he could run fast. Two other people were injured during the buffalo chase.

Mr. Va Savoeun, Chief of Choam Chao III Commune, said that a man had called the People's Defense Force on the phone to claim ownership of the buffalo after it was caught and tied up. But they told the caller that there was a lot of compensation to pay for the damage to the injured people and the campus grounds, he hung up the phone.

After being caught, the buffalo was tied up in the school grounds for one night by the authorities in preparation for his removal to a safe enclosure the next morning. But when they went to get him the next day, the buffalo was found dead, after being tied up all night with no food or water.

M0re likely the beast was in the latter stages of BSE - AKA Mad Cow Disease

Buffalo store water and wouldn't die overnight from a short term lack of food or water

I'm no expert but I would have thought that being trussed up in that position could have a serious effect on its digestive system (multiple stomachs and so on). These things also don't naturally lie on their sides.

One of the funnier stories of incompetence.

What a pity there is no video of the defence force playing 'chase' with an angry buffalo for hours, what did they expect to happen?

They antagonised it for hours making it run around in fear until it collapsed with exhaustion and then tied it up. It probably died of a stress-induced heart attack being hog-tied and trying to get free. Did they think it would have a peaceful nights sleep?

Fucking buffoons.

"The owner hung up" when told of the compensation payable :D
