Cambodia News, Phnom Penh: On the morning of May 7, 2023, the Phnom Penh Military Police sent a military officer to court in connection with a case of aggravated intentional violence, deliberately using a firearm that caused injuries to others.


The suspect is Sin Sovanret, alias Duk, male, 58 years old, military officer, living on street 102, Phum Lou, Sangkat Svay Pak, Khan Russey Keo, Phnom Penh. The suspect was arrested by the local police force of Russey Keo district on the morning of May 5, 2023 for shooting two people, his son and his brother-in-law.

On the night of May 4, 2023, the previous day, the military officer drove back to Phnom Penh from Kampot, and when he arrived home at around 10 pm, he found a party in progress with six or seven members of his family there, including his wife, talking and drinking. The man, who was in a bad mood, criticized his wife for sitting around drinking with the family, instead of paying attention while thieves were out in the plantation stealing his equipment. The son then took his mother's side of the argument, and when the father went to hit his son, the whole family began arguing.

The suspect went to the car in front of the house to take out his 54mm pistol and fire it at his wife and son, but he was stopped by his brother-in-law. Nevertheless, the suspect managed to fire off four shots, seriously injuring his brother-in-law and his son, who were taken to hospital. The father was arrested and the case is being investigated by the Phnom Penh Municipal Court.

Definitely shouldn't of shot them, can definitely see why he was so pissed off though.
