RIP Ubon Joe, master of Thailand visa rules and regs

Thailand is Cambodia's neighbor to the West, and this forum is dedicated to Thai news, stories, reviews, blogs, videos, Thai people and anything else related to the country. A lot of expats have both lived and worked in Cambodia and Thailand, and this area is a place to discuss all aspects of life in Thailand and what's going on there. Most topics are about Bangkok and Pattaya because of their larger populations of expatriates and tourists in those cities, but this is for all things Thai.

RIP Ubon Joe, master of Thailand visa rules and regs

Post by ExPenhMan »

More information is forthcoming, but for now, all we know is that Thaivisa's master of Thailand visa rules and procedures, Ubon Joe, has passed away. He, without much exaggeration, was the heart of what is now called ASEAN Now.

There is a long thread that shows just how much Joe's incredible knowledge drew so many visitors to join up predecessor Thaivisa.com and ASEAN Now. Some contacted him at least 20 years ago.

Including me. Thank you so much, Joe. RIP mate!

It is with deep regret that we have to announce the death of our very good friend and moderator Ubon Joe, following a short illness.

RIP Joe

We will post further details as and when they are available

Personal note: Frankly, there is not much left of Thaivisa/ASEAN Now worth keeping. First, Ubon Joe was irreplaceable. Second, there is a much reduced participation on the AN pages for several years now -- they never should have changed the name, IMHO. Many topics receive very few replies and some go without a single reply. And, of course, the trolls stand ready to bash and slash. << Then again, all you need are clicks

bet there were very few people who arrived after 2000 that did not benefit from his posts

I read it everyday, but even the Phuket section is a far cry from what it was pre covid

Same thing with the Pattaya/Jomtien and Bangkok subforums. Just a shadow of themselves. Many questions go begging for (useful) replies. The Cambodia and Vietnam subforums are almost absolute wastelands.

And what awful webpages. You scroll and late ads fill in and toss you off the post you were about to read. Appalling.

I remember this guy from when I lived in Issan nearly 15 years ago. He was always very informative on the sub-forum. Very sad RIP

Joe Reedy, 73, a dedicated individual and beloved moderator, passed away in Ubon Ratchathani, leaving behind a lasting impact on the lives he touched. Among his many services, Joe served as an expert on visa issues for aseannow.com. He joined the forum in 2008.

Born in the United States, Joe dedicated ten years of his life to serving his country as a jet engine technician in the US Air Force from 1968 to 1978. Joe's relocation to Thailand over 17 years ago, followed the devastating loss of his wife to cancer. He eventually remarried and settled in Ubon Ratchathani.

Embracing his passion for community service, Joe became a member of American Legion Post TH01 in Ubon. He actively participated in various roles, serving as a member-at-large and the Public Affairs Officer.

Through his involvement, Joe displayed a deep commitment to fellow veterans, ensuring their voices were heard and their needs were met.

He will be remembered as a resilient and honorable man who dedicated his life to serving others, both in his military career and in his commitment to going above and beyond the call of duty in helping the many people with questions and concerns about traveling, working or living in Thailand. He has had a profound effect on the lives of many.

Joe is survived by two daughters from the US, his wife in Thailand and his adopted daughter, who graduated from University and is now married.
