In case the name of the victim of the shooting Geoff Mc Comb seems familiar, there is a recent seven page thread on CEO containing allegations against him for fraud: general-chatter/kampot-buffalo-backpack ... 54255.html
For the moment, we have no confirmation that there is any link between the two events.

The plot thickens...
Also, this is novel. DIY handcuffs for 50c. 6 Cable ties and some PVC tape. Probably inescapable without a lot of effort.

Re: New Zealand Man Shot in Kampot, Allegedly Over Bad Debt
Further details:
Cambodia News, (Kampot): On April 29, 2023, at 22:20, there was a case of attempted murder (using a handgun and a sharp knife) at a rented house in Bot Kbal Damrey village, Mak Prang commune, Teuk Chhou district, Kampot province. The target of the attack was GEOFFREY BRENT MCCOMB, owner of the Arcadia Backpacker Hostel, living in Bot Kbal Damrey village, Teuk Chhou district, Kampot province.
On May 4, 2023, at 14:12, the Criminal Police Force, in cooperation with the Battambang Provincial Police, Pursat Provincial Police and Kampot Provincial Police, arrested two suspects. The two armed men are believed to have been sent to Kampot in a Mercedes to obtain the repayment of a debt from the New Zealander. It is alleged that when the foreign man refused to pay up and began to argue, that the two Cambodians then stabbed the victim with a knife and shot him in the thigh with a small handgun. The attackers then drove away to escape, but they were tracked down and arrested in Pursat province by the police five days later.
An unconfirmed source says that although Geoff McComb is said to have received four flesh-wounds in the attack, his days are not in danger. (The condition of the victim will be updated here if this is incorrect.)
The two "hitmen" from Battambang are being questioned by the Kampot Police Inspectorate as to the motive for the attack.
1: Name: Heng Sambath, Male, living in a rented house in Battambang City (the shooter)
2. Name: Tiv Hok Lay, Male, 22 years old, Occupation: Car mechanic, living in Battambang City (the knifer). On 4 May, the two men were apprehended at Wat Boeung Khnar, Bakan district, in Pursat Province, and police confiscated a silver Mercedes car with license plate number 2AA-5628.

They will get less than five years.
Could be as low as three.
I wonder if they were acting on inside information in regards to the crime?

He only got shot in the ass is what he's being telling people at the bars in Kampot, apparently he also received a severe beating about a week prior to this incident (so I heard).

Must be a rough village they live in. Plainclothes cops already have guns drawn and ready for use.
