Cambodia News, (Kampong Thom Province): Tragedy struck when a make-shift gold mine collapsed this morning at 10:30am, 4 May 2023, causing the death of 4 people at Okor Hak point , Chheu Teal commune, Sandan district, Kampong Thom province. According to the police, the gold mine belongs to Svay Phoeun, a 33-year-old man and his wife Moeun Sokvy, 32, who live in the same commune.

The four victims are:
1. Bien Hor, male, 28 years old, living in Veal Pring village, Chheu Teal commune, Sandan district;
2. Sok Chhean, male, 38 years old, living in Phdol village, Meanchey commune, Sandan district
3. Yim Chet, male, 31 years old, living in Veal Pring village, Chheu Teal commune, Sandan district
4. Peul Vuthy (aka Ta Venta), male, 29 years old, from Tuol Thmor village, Talor commune, Bakan district, Pursat province.

Authorities said that when the landslide struck the pit, the people above ground tried to go to the rescue of the victims trapped in the pit, but sadly, the victims were dead.
After the forensic examinations, the bodies were handed back to the families for traditional funeral ceremonies.
