Drug Trafficker Appeals 20 Year Sentence for 400g

Cambodia News (Phnom Penh): On the morning of 26 April 2023, the Supreme Court heard the appeal of a suspect who was sentenced by the lower court to 20 years imprisonment for drug trafficking in Sangkat Teuk Thla Khan Sen Sok, Phnom Penh, in February 2020. Mr. Nil Nonn, Chief Judge of the Supreme Court, stated that the accused was Long Sophorn, male, born in 1987, living in a house with no number, Boeung Salang Village, Toul Kork District.

In this case, on September 16, 2021, the accused was sentenced by the Phnom Penh Municipal Court to 20 years in prison and fined 40 million Riels for illegal drug possession and trafficking under Article 40 of the Law on Drug Control. The police confiscated 5 packs of drugs weighing 404.03 grams.
The Supreme Court will announce the appeal verdict on the morning of 5 May 2023.

UPDATE: 20 Year Sentence for 400g of Drugs; Appeal Rejected

Cambodia News (Phnom Penh): On the morning of 5 May 2023, the Supreme Court upheld the 20 year prison sentence of a drug offender to 20 years in prison for drug trafficking in Khan Sen Sok, Phnom Penh in February 2020.
Nil Nonn, the presiding judge of the Supreme Court, stated that the convicted man was Long Sophorn, born in 1987, and arrested by the police on 18 February 2020, when he was found in possession of 404.03 grams (almost half a kilogram) of methamphetamine.

On 16 September 2021, Long Sophorn was sentenced by the Phnom Penh Municipal Court to 20 years in prison and fined KHR40 million under Article 40 of the Law on Drug Control. His last hope of a sentence appeal has now been rejected.
