Cambodia News, (Kampot): It has been reported that this morning a gunman opened fire and killed two female family members, before turning the weapon on himself, at 10 am on April 27, 2023 in Bral village, Tani commune, Angkor Chey district, Kampot province. After receiving the information, the specialized force of the Provincial Police Commission and the Angkor Chey District Police Inspectorate went at the scene.

According to the police, the suspect was named Lay Sam Ath, alias Cham, a 39-year-old male resident of the village, who shot at his sister-in-law and his cousin using an AK rifle with several bullets. He then attempted to commit suicide by shooting one bullet in the chest.


The two victims are Nuon Sokha, female, 42 years old, teacher, (the suspect's cousin), who was hit by 2 bullets and Ieng Sun, a 47 years old farmer (sister-in-law).
The two victims and the shooter are members of the same family living in the same village. The suspect, who has a long term drug habit, shot the two victims because he was angry with them. The two victims died of their wounds but the gunman was sent to hospital for treatment.
