Active substances in street coffee

Post by BOFH »

Just had a cup of 3000 KHR coffee from a street vendor. I am very certain that there is very little caffeine, if any, in it. As a matter of fact I'm pretty speeded now, my heart's racing at 360 BPM and it does not feel like caffeine at all.

What the hell do they put in the street coffee? Ephedrine? Amphetamine? 20 minutes after intake I'm feeling like the Duracell bunny. Stressed butterflies in my stomach and I've got a slightly locked jaw.

I have accidentally overdosed on caffeine in the past. I've never felt like this from caffeine, especially after only one cup. Caffeine typically has a 5-10 minute onset when consumed orally. This coffee hit me right in the face after about 20, which matches the onset of ephedrine.

Is there any chance that someone on the board is familiar with the Determination of ephedrine alkaloids in botanicals and dietary supplements by HPLC-UV: collaborative study? It would be an interesting experiment to get this coffee tested... http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/15084081 Also UN drug testing guide for color testing https://www.unodc.org/pdf/scientific/SCITEC20-fin.pdf
Ephedrine is a common central nervous system stimulant present in the herb Ephedra sinica. It is sold in herbal supplements, in diet aids, and as a pure chemical. It is generally found in capsule or tablet form and is usually taken orally. The chart below shows oral dosages for ephedrine in milligrams (mg).

Oral Ephedrine Dosages
Threshold 5 - 10 mg
Light 10 - 20 mg
Common 15 - 30 mg
Strong 30 - 50 mg
Heavy 50 + mg

Onset : 20 - 90 minutes (depending on form and stomach contents)
Duration : 2 - 5 hours
Normal After Effects : 2 - 4 hours

Check this thread out from earlier this year: Ton of chemical substances and other raw materials for making counterfeit coffee

Ton of chemical substances and other raw materials for making counterfeit coffee were found and confiscated yesterday, after the police made a raid on a coffee production house names coffee mekong located in Sen Sok district, Phnom Penh.
All these counterfeit coffees are made from corn and bean with the chemical substances. https://cambodiaexpatsonline.com/newswor ... e%20coffee

Interesting.

So all we need for the three color tests to successfully check for ephedrine, pseudoephedrine, norephedrine, norpseudoephedrine, n-methyl-ephedrine and chloropseudoephedrine is acetaldehyde, aqueous solution of sodium nitroprusside (or sodium nitroprusside and acetaldehyde for synthesis), aqueous acetic acid solution (or glacial acetic acid for synthesis), aqueous solution of copper(II) sulphate (or copper(II) sulphate for synthesis), sodium hydroxide, aqueous solution of sodium hydroxide, formaldehyde solution, acetic acid, concentrated sulfuric acid and KOH iso-propanol.

Or a UN precursor kit. Anyone with a chemist friend or UN connections?

Did the cops ever disclose what chemicals were confiscated? They may already have our answers.

I don't drink street coffee and only buy whole beans. Street coffee you don't know where the water came from and what junk they put in it.

WRT the chemical mix I could only find this:

Experts said that additives used to turn soy beans into coffee-like beans, which include coffee flavorings, foam-making substance Sodium Lauryl Sulfate mainly used to make shampoo or dish-soap, industrial color powders and Carboxymethyl Cellulose (CMC), can contain impurities and heavy metals like mercury and lead, which may lead to cancers if used for a long time.http://www.thanhniennews.com/special-re ... -5604.html

Can You Distinguish Fake Coffee From The Real Stuff?
Wheat. Acai seeds. Corn. Soybeans. Barley. Triticale. Rye. Brown sugar. Rice. Twigs. Unscrupulous producers may be dumping such fillers into coffee, as drought and disease slash coffee yields. But a Brazilian scientist, Dr. Suzana Lucy Nixdorf, has developed the first chemical test to protect the purity of your morning cup of Joe.http://www.fastcodesign.com/3034404/inf ... real-stuff

Clip of making fake coffee in Cambodia but not very helpful!

Cambodia,,,, Don't fall in love with her.
Like the spoilt child she is, she will not be happy till she destroys herself from within and breaks your heart.
