America, (still) The Land of the Free?
Re: America, (still) The Land of the Free?
The Texas Senate just passed a bill that will require schools to display the Ten Commandments in all classrooms.
I would say that is crossing a line.

Actually the leading cause of death for children in the USA, according to the CDC, is "Unintentional Injuries"Kung-fu Hillbilly wrote: ↑Sun Apr 23, 2023 6:05 pm .
This short clip from The Problem with John Stewart puts things into perspective a little.
These "Unintentional INjuries" can be broken down and the top five are as follows:
Motor vehicle traffic-related injuries: This includes accidents involving cars, trucks, motorcycles, bicycles, and pedestrians. In 2019, motor vehicle traffic-related injuries accounted for 1,908 deaths among children aged 0-14 years.
Drowning: This includes deaths from drowning in swimming pools, bathtubs, and natural bodies of water. In 2019, drowning accounted for 684 deaths among children aged 0-14 years.
Unintentional suffocation: This includes deaths from suffocation due to choking on food or other objects, as well as suffocation in bed due to accidental strangulation or suffocation. In 2019, unintentional suffocation accounted for 643 deaths among children aged 0-14 years.
Poisoning: This includes deaths from accidental ingestion of medications, household chemicals, and other toxic substances. In 2019, poisoning accounted for 458 deaths among children aged 0-14 years.
Fires and burns: This includes deaths from house fires, burns from hot liquids or objects, and other fire-related injuries. In 2019, fires and burns accounted for 144 deaths among children aged 0-14 years.

I actually looked into child related deaths by firearms a bit more and the CDC was most helpful and produced the following breakdown by age amongst children 0-19 years old.
Breakdown of firearm-related deaths among children and adolescents aged 0-19 years in 2019 by age group:
0-4 years: 77 deaths
5-9 years: 85 deaths
10-14 years: 305 deaths
15-19 years: 3,135 deaths
It's important to note that the majority of firearm-related deaths among children and adolescents occur in the 15-19 age group. In 2019, this age group accounted for approximately 87% of all firearm-related deaths among children and adolescents.
The circumstances surrounding firearm-related deaths can also vary by age group. For example, among children aged 0-14 years, the majority of firearm-related deaths are due to unintentional injuries, while among adolescents aged 15-19 years, the majority of firearm-related deaths are due to homicides and suicides.
I wonder what could cause the 10 fold increase from the 10-14 age group to the 15-19 age group ?
gang violence?

Why do drag queens want to perform and read to children? And why are they fighting so hard for that right...

Re: America, (still) The Land of the Free?
On the list of problems that children face today, the lack or non-lack of drag queens reading them stories must be about number 500 and something.
For fks sake, kids can no longer walk to school without supervision, or just hang out with their friends after school, or smoke cigarettes behind the bikesheds, or go shoplifting at Woollies/Target/local supermarket. They are not allowed to climb trees or set off fireworks in old ladies' letter-boxes. And then the "old people" (that's us) complain about the fking kids and how they act out.
IMO : We had it good in the 20th century and I'm really sorry for the kids growing up in western countries these days. Cambodia is far from ideal as a safe space for kids, but there is still a certain amount of freedom for children here that no longer exists in most western countries.
So yeah, free for who ?

First let’s solve the drag queen problem, after that we will look at people shooting and killing kids in schools.
