Work in cambodia
Work in cambodia
Hey guys,
I am in dilemma situation. I guess I need your help or advice for this situation.
So I am Indonesian, 24. Recently, I got a job offering in Cambodia as a gambling content writer in borey sanho, poipet. The company name is Ann Ching Heng Co.ltd. The HR told me that my salary is around $500 and it seems like normal company. The boss is also Indonesian Chinese not mainland Chinese. I had zoom meeting with the HR and my future teamwork. But deep down here, I still feel hesitate about human trafficking issue there!
They also offer me the plane ticket and visa. When I asked what kind of visa I used, they answered a tourist visa (single entry). Then after a month, I will get my multiple entry and process into working visa. Why tourist visa? Because Indonesia is banned casino company here and most of casinos companies relocated to Cambodia. So if I used working visa to work in casino there, I'd definitely got denied to leave Indonesia.
So guys, do you think the company is real? Is it legit?
Thank you for reading and give me advices!

Would @PSD-Kiwi give his expertise?
It seems questionable that they would provide only a tourist visa for the first month.

Despite what angsta states, it’s clear from reading through his posts that angsta supports the free FreePalestine movement.

If you use this official website, you will see that online applications for visas from Indonesians are E type visas ONLY - not tourist visas. I just checked to see if you could get both and you can't.Zulfato wrote: ↑Sat Apr 08, 2023 9:21 pm Hey guys,

I have no idea why Indonesians can only get a E type (business/work) visa but check the site.
The BIG question is why this company wants you to get a Tourist visa (I presume on arrival) when you can get the correct visa online? Is it perhaps so they have an excuse to take your passport off you when you arrive? This is a big red flag. Also, changing a tourist visa into a work visa usually requires leaving the country or a well-paid agent who knows how to get around that requirement. Why bother when you can get the correct one online?
Another question is where you will be living. If they say they provide accommodation then be aware, that's how they capture their victims.
Another question is the airfare. Is it normal that employers you've never met pay for a migrant workers airfare? I doubt it, unless there are a lot of strings attached - they won't be happy if you quit after a week because you found another job. So, what are the terms of the employment, such as minimum period of work, or repayment of airfare? If they are silent on this issue, it probably means they have this side of things all worked out, i.e. they will take your passport and you will live in prison-like accommodation.
On balance, any legit company should have high competency in visa matters for migrant workers, and any that suggests entering on an incorrect visa and, "we'll fix it later" attitude is a bad sign, especially when you can get the correct visa online.
Re: Work in cambodia
Working in Poi Pet, it would be very easy for an Indonesian to bounce to Thailand and re-enter Cambodia with an ordinary visa.
Can't Indonesians enter Cambodia visa exempt, ASEAN and all? Maybe that's what they meant with "tourist visa".
Maybe they foresee trouble with the online application and want to shepherd their workers through a border bounce? It does seem suspicious though.

I suggest you join an online Indonesian group first, to get information. There are some for Indonesians' based in Cambodia on FB. Also a WA group called Permika.
Re: Work in cambodia
That would explain the inability to buy a tourist visa online, perhaps they can just walk in without a visa as Asean members.Alex wrote: ↑Sun Apr 09, 2023 9:10 am Working in Poi Pet, it would be very easy for an Indonesian to bounce to Thailand and re-enter Cambodia with an ordinary visa.

This SCREAMS "CALL CENTER"
In a nation run by swine, all pigs are upward-mobile and the rest of us are fucked until we can put our acts together: not necessarily to win, but mainly to keep from losing completely. HST
Re: Work in cambodia
The T-type (Tourist) Visa isn't available as an e-Visa to ASEAN passport holders as they get Visa exempt entry, even though some of them only get 14 or 21 days Visa Exempt, in which case they need to apply for the T-type VOA if they want to stay longer.
The OP's employer may not be aware that the E-type (Ordinary) Visa is now available as an e-Visa, however, all they need to do is provide the OP with the necessary supporting and tell him to apply for the E-type VOA. In any case, easy enough to do a Visa run to get an E-type Visa if he enters on a T-type Visa or Visa exempt entry.
But honestly, this smells fishy, and I wouldn't advise proceeding, and if you do then be aware of the potential risks involved.
Edit: The company appears to be legitimate and has the relevant operating license issued by the Cambodian Govt.... but so did many of the operations which were busted for human trafficking.

@xandreu Can you power up ChatGPT and ask it something like "tell me a story about gambling in Poipet"?
