MYSTERY surrounds the death of a British tourist who was found dead lying face down in a sewer in Cambodia.

Charlie Gray, 30, was discovered by horrified locals in a remote area in the Kampot province, around 90 miles from the capital Phnom Penh.

Police arrived shortly after he was found at around 4 pm local time on Thursday.

The man, from Bristol, was pronounced dead at the scene and his body was taken away for a police post-mortem examination.

A local named Bong Chea, who was one of people who found the body, said: “The man was dead when we found him. Somebody moved him to check if he was alive and try and wake him up.

“He was already dead.

“Nobody knows how he fell into the sewer. We also don’t know who the man was. We hardly see foreigners in this area.”

Police believe the victim could have fallen face down into the sewer and drowned from swallowing the shallow water.

However, an officer said today that his body could have been dumped in the ditch.

They are now waiting for the results from his dead body to find the cause of death.

Officers from the Krong Kampot district station said the body was currently at the Wat Teuk Thla temple in Phnom Penh.

Lieutenant Colonel Seang said: “The autopsy results will show how the foreigner died.

“If they show there was foul play, yes, we will investigate this further.

“He could have fallen into the sewer and died. Yes, it’s possible he died somewhere else and his body was left at the sewer.”

An FCDO spokesperson said: “We are supporting the family of a British man who died in Cambodia, and are in touch with the local authorities.”

So he randomly wanders out to some village where foreigners never go and drown after falling face first into a sevage canal several meters away from the road.

Cambodia must be one of the best places in the world if you wanted to get away with murder lol

Unless mistaken, that's the pagoda on route to the "international village" in Kampot

There are hundreds of foreigners in that area

This part of the story is not being corroborated by local Cambodians that I know. I heard it was in a busy-enough area that has many foreigners passing through. I'll do a bit more fishing and see what I can find out...
