So this is just word of mouth, but the story I'm hearing is that the fall was witnessed by local Cambodians who attempted CPR, but suspected that his neck was broken. It allegedly happened in broad daylight. The sewer is actually more of an open pipe that you can see here:

A look at his Facebook page shows that he was somewhat traumatized over a relationship breakup and some supposedly bad behaviour he partook in during it, possibly substance related, and was coming to Cambodia to get away. So he may have been depressed and or intoxicated.

Accuracy of reporting, and the general tendency to embellish and add some flourish in most local reporting does little to establish any clarity.siliconlife wrote: ↑Sat Apr 08, 2023 2:02 pm So this is just word of mouth, but the story I'm hearing is that the fall was witnessed by local Cambodians who attempted CPR, but suspected that his neck was broken. Such as the 41year old Brit, born in ‘92, and is actually 30 going on 31.
The frequent mis-translation (google translate is great for getting it wrong) and regular misuse of terms and words, such as sewer and drain being used interchangeably, but just as likely inaccurately.
I think it fair to say that when most folk (I’ve had a few discussion about this sort of thing in Cambodia) have little or no concept of what CPR is, why it is done- the word rouse was used in another extract, then it may well be that the body was turned over, the fella’s head would have lolled, (easily interpreted as broken) and they have shaken him a bit to rouse him.

Despite possible intoxication still ultimate bad luck, basically tripping over and dying.
RIP to the fella

Google translate totally mangles Khmer numbers and dates. It seems to have gotten worse over the years.Freightdog wrote: ↑Sat Apr 08, 2023 2:55 pm The frequent mis-translation (google translate is great for getting it wrong)

I can put the same query into an iPad, an iPhone, a Samsung phone and an Oppo phone, and get at least three different results, sometimes four.

I really question why it should be brought up that Khmer are ignorant of CPR in this topic. I personally haven't met a single one who was not at least aware of it (I'm not saying they had proper training). There is Cambodian vocabulary for it that is very established, it is part of the common knowledge (of course, right?). Such is my experience with Cambodians anyway.

Why is CPR suddenly being discussed? I've been reading local news for way long and this was never an issue. The same report mentions an autopsy? Let's see.
