Cambodia News, (Phnom Penh): Special forces of the Anti-Drug Department revealed two cross-border drug traffickers, after the specialized forces searched, cracked down and confiscated more than 40 kilograms of drugs. This is according to a source from the Anti-Drug Department, who received the tape on Monday morning, April 3, 2023.

The Anti-Drug Department further confirmed that on the evening of March 30, 2023 at 18:30, the Special Forces of the Department of Anti-Drug (A4) led by Brigadier General Sum Narak, investigated and cracked down on a drug trafficking operation at the Aeon Mall 3 parking lot, located in Khan Meanchey, Phnom Penh. The drug methamphetamine (aka crystal meth) was found wrapped in packages of Chinese tea, following the South East Asian drug smuggling tradition.

In fact, in that operation, as a result, the specialized force arrested 2 suspects:
1. Name: Pao Veang, Gender: Male, Year of Birth: 1987, Nationality: Lao
2. Name: Sok Taing, Male, Year of Birth: 1987, Nationality: Khmer (Vietnamese).

Police seized: methamphetamine (ICE) weighing 40 kg, 530.40 grams, one white High Lander car.

Currently, on the morning of Monday, April 3, 2023, the suspects and exhibits are being processed and sent to the Phnom Penh Municipal Court.

Anti-drug department police forces are working to identify additional accomplices involved in cross-border drug trafficking following the arrest of two alleged drug dealers.

Mak Chito, deputy National Police chief in charge of the department, told The Post on April 3 that his officers, acting on a tip-off from an informant, were able to arrest the two suspects on March 30-31. The first was identified as a Vietnamese national named Sok Taing, 36, and the second a Lao national named Pav Veang, also 36.

The initial bust took place in the parking lot of a mega shopping mall in Chak Angre commune of the capital's Meanchey district. Over 40kg of methamphetamines were recovered from a Toyota crossover that police said Taing was driving. Veang's arrest came the following day after further investigation.

“Upon questioning, Pav Veang admitted that he was the right-hand man of an influential drug dealer in Laos,” Chito said.

Citing the pair's confessions, he said they had smuggled the drugs across the border into Cambodia with the intention of setting up a network of local dealers in the country, only to have their plan foiled by the police.
