Checking baggage to a different destination

Do you have a Cambodian trip report you want to share? Post it here, and feel free to link to your blog if it's a travel blog for Cambodia, South East Asia, or anywhere really. You can ask and answer questions about travel advice in Cambodia or just share your pictures and videos with us. Most people who live in or visit Cambodia have also checked out nearby countries like Vietnam, Thailand, Laos, Myanmar, Malaysia, Indonesia and the Philippines, and you can get to most of these countries by traveling overland, so put any travel plans, reviews or questions here. Discussions about dirt bike trails in here as well.

Bear in mind that when you check in at PNH you are not checking in with Thai Airways/Thai Smile staff, you are checking in with Cambodia Airports staff. The computer in front of them will almost certainly have no visibility of your booking originating BKK.

Yeah, I am slowly coming to that conclusion. I think a week or two in Thailand before I head home is a good plan and takes this issue off the table.

It is possible to have your luggage checked through to your final destination, even if your flights are not on same ticket as long as your flights are on same airline or there is some sort of strong partnership between airlines (same group, same alliance or codeshare partnership) but this usually only happens on big western airlines. Have done it personally multiple times with Finnair,Lufthansa and Turkish Airlines. But in Doc’s case chances are slim as it’s Thai airways and Phnom Penh airport staff involved too which is notoriously bad at customer service.

I think it is not worth the risk.
