SEA Games 2023 - Schools to close

Post by IraHayes »

Ministry of Education has announced schools will be closed from 20th April to 18th May.
I just heard today and on checking the Games dont actually start until 5th May.

Someone can post the official statement as a reply to confirm

What idiocy if correct. As if schools weren't closed enough the last 3 years.

Genius move, really drives home the government's message of "uplifting" the youth.

That would effectively lead to a five week holiday with Khmer New Year just before the closure.

No mention of state schools only. The opposite.

Any bets on teachers getting reduced salaries? We usually pay tuition before or immediately after Khmer New year.

Demonstrating the complete lack of thought or consideration about this, and pretty much every other proper gubbinsment idea.

They’ve known about these games for how long? But come up with this daft plan, to be announced with only 4 weeks notice.
There’s 12 days of the games, but there’s 2 weeks prior break, yet everything technically back to ops normal the day after it’s over. Just in time for the weekend.
What are the chances that this will simply be April 14 to May 22, once a few more unproductive days are tacked on?

Are they deranged? Is someone lacing the office tea with strong recreational pharmaceuticals?

No reduced salaries, an excellent opportunity to gain from extra private classes instead.

A friend of mine at a private university in Phnom Penh says it will apply to them. It will be "interesting" to see them scramble to move the finals that were scheduled for that time.
