Re: Herd of Cows Dies from Presumed Poisoning
What the heck do they spray the cassava with? Cyanide?
Re: Herd of Cows Dies from Presumed Poisoning
I think something went wrong with the translation here, AFAIK cassava has been harvested and farmers are waiting for the start of the rainy season to plant again.CEOCambodiaNews wrote: ↑Tue Mar 21, 2023 4:02 pm

Re: Herd of Cows Dies from Presumed Poisoning
It's more likely that the cows became poisoned from eating the fresh cassava - which does cause cyanide poisoning @hanno
Feeding of fresh cassava root to animals is restricted because it contains hydrocyanic acid at a high level, which is the origin for poisoning. High levels of hydrocyanic acid from fresh cassava root could be detoxified by sulfur addition to become nontoxic to cattle.

There's not really a harvest season for cassavas, it can be harvested all year long. You still can see cassavas plantation everywhere in the kingdom now, late march.
I doubt pesticides have been sprayed for the cassavas, i guess that was to clean the land / kill the grass (then eaten by the cows).
