Goldsmith Arrested for $37K of Bad Checks
Cambodia News, (Phnom Penh): Mr. San Bunthoeun, Investigating Judge of the Phnom Penh Municipal Court, on the afternoon of March 8, 2023, issued a detention order for Bann Samnang, male, a 44 year old goldsmith, to await trial over issuing worthless checks for over 30,000 US dollars.
On January 20, 2021, the suspect, who was an acquaintance of the plaintiffs, went to buy jewelry from a store called Rachana Tbong Pich, located in Sangkat Teuk Thlan, Khan Sen Sok. When buying, the suspect did not give cash to the plaintiff, but issued three checks with a total value of 37,432.
The checks were post-dated, but when the due date was reached, the creditor took the checks to the bank who responded with a "no, sorry, bad check."
After realizing that the check was worthless, the plaintiff contacted the suspect in an attempt to resolve the debt in an informal manner,, but the suspect was not helpful and tried to avoid the debt, so the plaintiff then filed a complaint to the Phnom Penh police to take legal action.

Re: Goldsmith Arrested for $37K of Bad Checks
Bounced cheques are a serious business under Cambodian law, can't believe anyone either issues them or accepts them beyond the biggest businesses and banks which are stuck in the 20th century.
