Cambodia News (Phnom Penh): 2 March 2023: Police reported today that the body of a murdered woman was found at 168. St. KS03, New World Borey, Kandal Village Sangkat Rolous, Khan Dangkor, Phnom Penh. The woman's body was discovered after concerned neighbors asked the security guards to see if there was anyone in the house. Much to their horror, the guards found the woman's dead body in the bedroom; she had been shot and was covered in blood.

The victim was identified as 34-year-old Mai Sokunthea, who was several months pregnant and living with her second husband in New World Borey. She left her husband and four children over a year ago, they were divorced, and she had remarried. Unfortunately, according to sources at the scene the victim and her new husband often quarreled.
The woman was shot twice in the bedroom, and it seems that the shots went unnoticed at the time, but her husband has run away, so he is clearly the preliminary suspect in this case.

Police technical, scientific, forensic examination and research teams went to the scene to investigate the body and the crime scene. Police are questioning neighbors and family, and there is a nationwide alert out for the missing husband.

Cambodia News, (Phnom Penh): The man who was sought by police for the killing of his pregnant wife, in Sangkat Rolous, Khan Dangkor, has confessed to the Criminal Police Department, that he shot his wife, Mai Sokunthea, in a fit of jealousy.

The suspect, Yuan Kuy Heng, 33, shot his wife in the head, causing her to die while she was four months pregnant at their home in Kandal village, Rolous commune, Dangkor district, Phnom Penh, on 2 March 2023.


Brigadier General Kheng Meng Chheang, Deputy Director of the Criminal Police Department, confirmed that at 18:50 on the same day, the suspect, Yuan Kuy Heng, came to confess his crime and give himself up at the Criminal Police Department of the National Police.

Breaking News: Police Find House Full of Drugs; Husband Just Out of Prison

Cambodia News, (Phnom Penh): A man who shot and killed his 4-month-pregnant wife in New World Borey 3 houses No. 168, Sangkat Rolous, Khan Dangkor, confessed to the crime at the Criminal Police Department of the Ministry of Interior at 6 pm on the day of the incident.

It was later discovered that the assailant, the victim's husband Yon Kuy Heng, around 30 years old, unspecified occupation, was a drug dealer who had just been released from prison in connection with a murder case. The victim, 34-year-old May Kunthea, who ran a beauty salon, and her husband had just paid for the house in the Borey, and the couple moved in only three months ago.

According to sources at the scene, the woman's body was discovered because her relatives kept calling her, and when she never answered the phone, they called the neighbors to go to check on her. The neighbors asked the Borey security guards to investigate when they saw that the door had been left unlocked, and the guards went inside and found the body.

Regarding the above murder case, Lieutenant Colonel Cheang Hok Se, Deputy Inspector of Dangkor District Police Inspectorate, said that from the start of the investigation it appeared obvious that the husband was the one who shot his wife, and the police put out an alert to find and arrest him. However, just over three hours later, the suspect gave himself up to police and confessed that he killed his wife because he was jealous.


Furthermore, upon investigation, police discovered that the assailant Yon Kuy Heng was a drug dealer who had had just been released from prison in connection with a murder in Sihanoukville. A police search of the house uncovered more than 2 kilograms of drugs, and after questioning the suspect, the police are building a case to send to court.

More details : It is difficult to have confirmed information, but in the bedroom where the woman was killed, police found blood-stained footprints on the floor leading out of the room; they are presumed to belong to the husband* .

According to the neighbors, the woman had been married once before with four children, and she and her ex-husband had been divorced for more than a year. The victim then became involved with the suspect until they were married. The victim was four months pregnant at the time she was murdered by her second husband.

Cambodia News, (Phnom Penh): Mr. Rath Sitha, Investigating Judge of the Phnom Penh Municipal Court, on the afternoon of March 6, 2023, issued a detention order for a man who shot and killed his wife. He was temporarily imprisoned in the 1st Correctional Center on charges of aggravated homicide, possession of a firearm without a permit, and the storing, trafficking and illegal use of drugs at his house in Kandal Village, Sangkat Rolous, Khan Dangkor, Phnom Penh, in accordance with the provisions of Article 202 and Article 490 of the Penal Code, and Article 40 and Article 45 of the Law on Drug Control.

The above suspect is Yuan Kuy Heng, male, 33 years old, car dealer, drug addict, and was recently released from prison in Sihanoukville. He was also the second husband of the murder victim, Mai Sokunthea, alias Anna.
