You will have problems living somewhere in the country that doesn't have a reasonably large expat community if you don't speak Khmer. Very few people in the countryside speak English and you will be buying the majority of your food from markets and roadside stalls, which makes speaking Khmer an absolute must, let alone getting on with the neighbours.

I'd stick to the usual expat hangouts until I had myself a good grasp of the language before I thought about settling down anywhere too off-road if I were you.

@Bluenose
Just out of interest, how are you looking to maintain a visa here?

I'm not looking for Koh Phangan - it was just to give you guys an idea of what I like, but mostly I'll be home so I'm thinking to rent a nice house around Kep...
Could anyone answer me if soybeans are easyly available around there?

That exactly what I'm thinking, backpackers modern expression used in social networks.

You would probably fit in well on Koh Rong or Koh Rong Samloeum or Koh Tonsai or somewhere like that then. Don't fret about soya beans, they are a very regular item here.
