That's interesting, but it's Thailand, not Cambodia.phuketrichard wrote:lets see
last time my rented home was robbed they came in thru the ceiling but that was 20 years ago.
My home here backs up against a rubber tree plantation, no bars on windows, only screens, never lock the house and the Burmese workers walk past the house each day to and from work, cash is on the desk, in drawers, on tables and in the hidden safe bolted to the floor in the 2nd bedroom. keys for the car are left on the floor of the car so i don't lose them.
NEVER had anything taken or stolen in the past 12 years i have lived here
I've only been robbed once here, in 2007. I lived near Wat Botum at the time. I stupidly left the balcony door open a bit after staying up till 4 am working. I thought it was too difficult to get onto it from the street outside. Woke up to find a drawer out on the balcony and maybe $200, a couple of phones (one expensive one) a camera and various other things missing. I was also a bit freaked out to think that most of this stuff was only about a meter from where we were sleeping (on the other side of a window/wall). I'm still careful not to leave anything valuable near a window, even though I have razor-wire on the perimeter, barred windows and doors and a big dog downstairs.
Silence, exile, and cunning.

There could be a difference between owning a shed in the middle of nowhere and owning a flat with a TV and C64/ZX Spectrum for example, also in the middle of nowhere.

TBH, the constant comparisons between Thailand and Cambodia aren't that interesting. IMO it's on par with "Back in my home country" where everything is better by default.John Bingham wrote:That's interesting, but it's Thailand, not Cambodia.phuketrichard wrote:lets see...

You can take Richard out of Phuket, but you can't take the Phuket out of Richard's posts.

not better, but different as so many play down Thailand an Thai people
NOT all people on here live in Cambodia, and many are planning or thinking of moving there
So why not give them an honest opinion of the differences?

Re: robbed
If it's the house I think it is, it's going to require massive efforts to secure. Theres some kind of smaller empty lot for sale to the side that renders all gates to the property null and void. A relative had once furniture in storage there, it was all stolen in a matter of days despite a local family living in the premises. Another time they even stole a rusty metal swing in the garden.
I'd also go with dogs as suggested.
