Re: The good old days are gone
Reminds me of a bar in Saigon, Vinyl on Pasteur st about 10 years ago. They had a 100,000 dong all you can drink Tiger draft deal from 4 to 7. That was about $5 then. I used to see some serious drinking going on in that bar. Most I managed was 12, and hardly even slightly Brahms, so maybe it was watered down. Happy days.

Mmmh at this price i strongly suspect foul materials, and predict irreversible health issues.
Despite their best branding efforts, i don't actually believe "Super whisky" is actually that super for anyone

It's awful rotgut . Much better sticking with beer. Beer is relatively expensive for some so they drink palm wine or rice wine. Then there is the rough muscle tonic wine At the very bottom are these rum concoctions like Super Whiskey that cost about 3000 riel for 750 ml. Awful stuff.Ghostwriter wrote: ↑Fri Feb 10, 2023 9:01 pmMmmh at this price i strongly suspect foul materials, and predict irreversible health issues.

Silence, exile, and cunning.

They got a bunch of young backpackers to work there for their accommodations. You can only imagine the quality and attitudes of the staff. If you went to the bottom of Serendipity hill and took a left, the Dolphin was about 200 meters down and JJs was maybe 400 meters down the beach. Towards the end, I quit going down there because the whole scene deteriorated so bad.

Don't forget the balloons filled with Nitrous Oxide.

Th result of going to the cheapo bars will be coming home drunk and vomiting. In the worst case you wake up next to a nasty looking ladyboy.
work is for people who cant find truffles
Re: The good old days are gone
for a wee plastic glass of beer ...down the beach you got a barbeque meal and a normal glass of draft for $3 and a better view...first time I was in Phnom Penh the beers on riverside were $0.62 ....had 20c beer in Vietnam it burned all the way down !

Is it any wonder that they finally let another group of foreigners in to demolish this kind of thing and build casinos? Backpackers are mostly rich kids pretending to be poor kids, and country after country has concluded that what they leave behind in the local economy isn’t worth the bother.
Revolutions have all shown that many things can be changed, with the exception of people themselves.

Super whiskey is pretty rough, but I thought the old Mekong whiskey with the red and gold label tasted pretty good for the price. I feel like it was about 5 years ago that I went to buy a bottle, and they told me it had been discontinued. I’ve always wondered why, and nobody has been able to give me an answer.John Bingham wrote: ↑Fri Feb 10, 2023 10:32 pm
