not all of europe is expensive quite a lot is quite cheap, i went to budapest for a week and barely spent more than a couple of hundred pounds same with holland, i can blow $300 in a night in cambodia its all relative really but you dont need $300++ a day to enjoy europe, when i was in Budapest my private room (albeit wasnt the best) was only 10euros a night, a pint of beer is between $1-1.70 USD...

That's maybe what you need, but others can get by on less. Especially, if you're young and backpacking.phuketrichard wrote:AVERAGE $1,200- $1,500 is break even for 2 people ( if at least one is a westerner) in se asia
u wouldn't save a dime
to enjoy Europe u need budget $300++/day
That said, most Cambodians who talk about going to Europe have no idea how expensive it can be. The UK is even worse. It is much better if you know some people there that can help you.

Budapest is NOT Paris
i was traveling with my daughter so we dont travel cheap ( haven't done that since the 70's)
in paris a small room ( if the suitcases were on the floor u had to move thru the room by walking on the beds) which would be $15-20 in PP was $150
any meal was at least $40 for 2
add in museums ( $15-20/person) , travel by taxi....
Amsterdam about 15% less
Athens 20% less

Exactly. You'd be hard pressed to be able to save anything on $1,500 in the West, not even close. Even if you did, there's so many "killer" expenses that could wipe all your savings out in one go. Get sued, get injured (if in the U.S.), have a kid, have a car break down, lose a job, etc.Anchor Moy wrote: That said, most Cambodians who talk about going to Europe have no idea how expensive it can be.
Money disappears so fast in the West compared to Cambodia.

There is no reason i will be able to spend 300 dollar per day according to my current income. I only have a desire to visit any countries in Europe, but i have never thought or expected that i would be able to visit there any time in the future beside getting a scholarship to study there.
I have known quite a few people in Germany who i felt more than acquaintance. They always called me to visit Germany and they would be so happy to accommodate me if i manage to make my way out there or i can try cough serving. They are living in different cities, so if i manage to visit Germany i will be able see different places.
I am quite familiar and understand about travelling in European countries and about those countries in general. Even just backpacking is way too expensive compare to Cambodia and other countries in South East Asia. I was told that Germany, England and French are really expensive to travel, however there are some cheap places to travel in Europe too such as Eastern Europe countries.
One of the biggest constraint for me is getting a visa to those countries. As a Cambodian and generally people from developing countries, it is really hard to get a visa to visit developed countries.
To my knowledge, in order to apply for tourist visa to Germany, we will be required to have all legal documents and land or house certificate if possible but not necessary. However, we have to have a bank account and in that bank account must have at lest 3000 dollar in it.
To apply for tourist visa to Australia, all the same documents are required, but the different is that in our bank account must have at least 5000 dollar in it.

I think it's a lot of money, but when my friend visited U.S, she needed to have money in the bank more than this.
Which country do you want to visit?

they also say this about english people also, but i never had to prove any financial documents regards to money in the bank etc, i actually last entered the country in february with $0 in the bank and about -$2000 on my credit card, and they still let me in,Samouth wrote:

i never even had to actually prove via documents regards to my criminal record either i just told them my record when applying (which isnt the best) and it got accepted, i got pulled over for checks at the border in immigration but all they did was question me regards to my record and didnt have to show any documentation, genuinely thought i was going to get flown back to cambodia and denied immigration but they seemed pretty relaxed and friendly tbh i could have been a serial killer rapist pedophile for all they knew

Thing is Jamie, you took the risk of possibly being deported BUT you have a UK passport. Anyone rocking up to Australian immigration with a Cambodian passport should be prepared to back everything up with papers. Even then, they may not let you in.
For Aussie immigration : Cambodian = boat person. You are there to keep them out, not to let them in.
It's not fair, but all passports are not treated equally.
