My wife got denied a visa three times to the U.S. despite all docs in order and a lot more money than $3k in the bank. Wasn't until the 4th time that she was approved and finally got through. Sometimes immigration are just assholes.

AE86, from my experience in many countries and hundreds of border crossings, I would say immigration are usually arseholes, not sometimes.

Unless here, ;) At least for me, every time I've spoken Khmer to the immigration people while handing them my foreign passport, they've been very nice. I think they're happy to see someone speaking their language.

I get quite a bit less and have a 14-year old kid to look after as well.

You need to cut down on stuff if 2 of you can't live on 1500, imo.
Yeah Vlad, because everyone loves the lifestyle of a freshman at University on a Ramen Noodle budget.

I'd love to eat at very nice restaurants every night. I'd also like to be able to donate some money to my in laws and a few other sources, that's hard on $1500 a month.

We also like to travel a lot. 2 weeks in Palawan, Philippines in August. We travel every chance we get. My fiancee makes more per month than me, but I spend all my money and she saves for our move to America + starting a family.

A retirement account would be nice for our future....

No problem mate, but my wife's immigration story is depressing to say the least, and it's a good portion of the reason I'm leaving the U.S. to be honest. I'm so fed up the USCIS that I've given up and am saying "fuck it".
