Siem Reap Hole Gets Bigger; Land Grabber Keeps Digging
Cambodia News, (Siem Reap): Residents living in Sangkat Sra Nge, Siem Reap City have expressed serious concerns about the safety of children and animals who risk falling into a huge soil excavation pit, belonging to business woman Eng Sokgech, which is becoming bigger every day. The digging is also destabilizing the foundations of nearby properties.
Concerned about safety, because there is no official authorization for the digging, people living next to the pit have requested the Governor of Siem Reap to come himself or send a professional officer to visit the location to assess the damage.
Siem Reap provincial officials have revealed that Eng Sokgech's excavation business was acting without permission, in violation of the law, meaning that there are no security regulations at the site. This is why local people are very worried about the safety of their families and their animals. They also wonder how Eng Sokgech can openly break the law like this, with the full knowledge of Siem Reap officials, but without any action being taken by the authorities.
Some people are speculating that Eng Sokgech may be doing business with high officials, but regarding this case, Ms. Eng Sokgech, the owner of the land grabbing business, could not be reached for comment.

Re: Siem Reap Hole Gets Bigger; Land Grabber Keeps Digging
How to convert dirt into cash..
Its a shame how certain individuals are allowed to do whatever they want leaving so many others to deal with the negative consequences of such behaviour.
Italy has a long hstory of corruption too (beeing probably the most corrupt of EU) and I know how hard it is to eradicate it. Huge profits are taken in by the mob leaving the public to pay for the clean-up. Again and again.
Apparently it does not matter if a country is ruled by a dictator or is a democrazy run by cleptomaniac politicians backed by voters who behave like sheep. The result is the same.
The world is fucked up.

The article leaves much to be desired and I can't really see how that hole could be affecting foundations of nearby houses tbf
Sounds like neighbor is pissed off more than anything

I think the land-grabbing headline is misleading. She probably owns the land, and is just selling the soil. It's going to take a lot of effort to refill that giant pit.Jerry Atrick wrote: ↑Sat Feb 04, 2023 4:47 pm So, is she a landowner who is digging a hole or is she the owner of the land grabbing business?
