Re: Project Ireland 2040
It's worth noting who started this baseless rumor. Alex "The Sandy Jones School shootings were fake" Jones. But Google is to blame?
From Quora:
What do people think about the Ireland 2040 project by the Irish government to bring a million migrants into Ireland by 2040 (Ireland has a population of 4.7 million)?
There is NO paragraph, section or sentence in the entirety of the last government’s ‘Project Ireland 2040’ report which stated that we are going “…to bring a million migrants into Ireland by 2040…”
This is simply UNTRUE.
Given that the Republic of Ireland has one of the three highest Total Fertility Rates(TFRs) in Europe, the overwhelming majority of the projected 20% increase in our population is going to come from natural increase. More bluntly, from Irish people having sex and producing Irish babies…
The report is notable for at least two things; it was the first ever attempt at long term planning in Ireland, and it made the realistic assumption that we would be able to pay for it ourselves…
To repeat; there is NO plan, by the Irish government or any other Irish institution, “…to bring a million migrants into Ireland by 2040…”
It doesn’t matter what Infowars or other right wing sites are claiming, it is simply untrue. They probably haven’t even read it, to be honest…
Stop relying on Breitbart for your news.
The project predicts an increase in the total population of Ireland by approx 1 million people by 2040. Most of that increase will be a result of Irish people having babies.
Not a million immigrants. No. Not at all. Wrong, untrue, not stated, a falsehood. Alright, a lie. A deliberate lie designed for a particular effect, which as you can see, it’s rather good at, and it should be, as it’s been crafted by a person who has made a lot of money by crafting such lies.
That’s it and that’s all.

Re: Project Ireland 2040
Maybe Dubliners never heard of St Patrick, ( y'all are more British than Irish aren't ya?) .... And by extension the global tradition of partying hard each year on March 17th, the day he died if I'm not mistaken, aptly named St Patty's Day.
Patty is what we often nicknamed anyone we knew of Irish heritage in my circles in Canada.
Sorry if I've said something outside of your personal knowledge JB but fear not, super flyer will surely come along to defend your honour, reminding all and sundry what a great Irishman you are.

Re: Project Ireland 2040
Isn't the population of Ireland just over 5 million total ... How many will be women in their child bearing years in the next 17 yrs ... That's a lot of kids per if they're to knock out the majority of the expected 1,000,000 increase by then ..... I know, I know ...math is hard ....John Bingham wrote: ↑Thu Feb 02, 2023 6:02 pm It's worth noting who started this baseless rumor. Alex "The Sandy Jones School shootings were fake" Jones. Yes, math obviously is hard as well as reading. Good luck.

Math isn't that hard, but it all starts with the facts.CaptainCanuck wrote: ↑Thu Feb 02, 2023 6:14 pm

This proofs you right. Natural growth rate of 0,72% per year isn't enough for a million new babies in 17 years.

Re: Project Ireland 2040
That's the entire growth including migration.
Re: Project Ireland 2040
Long term the population of Ireland will decrease when there's no migration. An average amount of about 2,05 children per woman is required for a stable population (each woman replaces herself and the father of the children). Ireland currently is at about 1.9 per woman, which means a natural decrease of population.

There are also returning emigrants to consider, which have been very high compared to previous decades.
