Exchange Thai bath

Post by cpandrea »

Hi
Going to Thailand,
Is it better to buy Thai bath in Phnom Penh, for example at Ly hour or in Bangkok at Superrich ?
Where is usually better the exchange rate from dollar to Thai bath?

In Thailand you get about half a Baht more for a dollar but you might want to exchange some money in Cambodia so you're not in the position you have to change some money at the airport.
If you bring cash to Thailand, bring crisp 100$ bills. The highest exchange rate is only valid for those. Other notes get a slightly worse rate.

What is wrong with a Cambodian bath instead of getting one from Thailand?

I started an identical thread last year. thailand-news-and-discussion/buying-tha ... 51389.html

Unless you are changing up many $1000's, the rate from the guy in Central Market and the exchanges in BKK are so close as to be insignificant in the grand scheme of things.

What is not mentioned about changing up money in Bangkok is it involves making a journey to the exchange, taking your passport, and then going back to your hotel/apartment to safely store the money and your passport. Bangkok is a big place unlike PP, so it will involve effort and transport. Don't be one of those guys that end up with a tale of woe when he lost all his money and his passport because he went straight out on the piss and woke up in a sleezy bar without any trousers.

I don't like carrying my passport any more than is absolutely necessary, and that includes trips to exchanges in unknown places and areas. The guy at central market is easy to get to and hasn't got sketchy people hanging around. If you lose your passport while abroad, you are screwed unless you are prepared to go back to your home country on an emergency travel document.

100% agree. Just use an ATM. Rate isn't that bad, really.
You know that tingly little feeling you get when you really like someone? That's common sense leaving your body.
