An Ambulance and a Train Meet in Sihanoukville
Cambodia News (Sihanoukville): According to a post by Huy Bunleng on social media, this afternoon, on January 31, 2023, at around 1:00 pm, a traffic accident occured between an ambulance and a train. The ambulance drove directly accross the path of a running train, destroying a number of shanty huts that have been built along the other side of the tracks in Sangkat 1, Sihanoukville.
The accident is said to have been caused by limited visibility due to overhanging trees and the shacks built so close to the railway line. Two people were injured in the incident and were taken to the nearby hospital for treatment.

Limited visibility. L-O-L. Suddenly, out of nowhere, train tracks had been built and - surprise, surprise! - a train was running on them.

It is confirmed that the ambulance driver was not paying attention when he crossed the railway line, and failed to notice the on-coming train.

Re: An Ambulance and a Train Meet in Sihanoukville
I come back to my previous observation regarding tuning out noise pollution, along with other noise and various distractions.
Khmer are very adept at simply not hearing the noise made by neighbours. Noise that has my hackles raised.
Just recently, taking a drive around the province, we were at a rail crossing, Waiting for the train to come along. SWMBO asked why we stopped, to which I mentioned the train. Her old friend in the back seat was surprised when the train crossed our path.
Along the lines of ‘where did that come from?’.
I mentioned the train horn that had been blaring for several minutes. Neither had registered it. It was just another sound in the background, largely ignored because people overuse horns for one. At that crossing, the car would be well and truly in the path of the train before you actually saw it, assuming that you had the physical ability to turn your head and look, which is another trait and failing of Khmer drivers. The assumption seems to be that everyone else is going to avoid hitting you.
Try telling that to several hundred tonnes of train.

Apart from the weather, the reason I wanted to move to PP was the quiet. Compared to Vietnam, people here hardly ever use their hornsFreightdog wrote: ↑Wed Feb 01, 2023 4:13 pm It was just another sound in the background, largely ignored because people overuse horns for one.
