Monthly rental Poipet
Monthly rental Poipet
I’m looking at staying in Poipet for a few months later this year and I’m wondering if anyone knows of monthly rentals for apartments or hotels.
I know Poipet doesn’t have a good reputation and doesn’t have many western expats living there. But, I spent some time there in January and actually enjoyed it. Most locals speak some Thai and I could communicate quite well using my limited Thai and Thai baht is readily accepted anywhere in the city.
Anyway if anyone has any information about accommodation I’d be grateful to hear it please

I'd go with Hak Huot 1 since it's a better location than Hak Huot 2 and it has a rooftop pool that's very nice. It was $25 a night but the youngish managers will do weekly deals. From the Hak Huot 1 as a start you can look around for better deals with local motodops. Good English speaking motos are around here and there but you're sure to get one up by Thai and Cambodia border traffic circle that is bordered by "Lucky 369 Hotel and Casino". That little traffic circle is where all the taxis hang out that go to Phnom Penh and everywhere else in Cambodia. There is a mart across from Lucky 369 that has all kinds of wares and where one or two English speaking motos tend to hang at. You can easily walk from Hak Huot 1 to this traffic circle that is 200 meters from one of the main border crossings ( the Holiday Village Resort Complex is just beyond the Lucky 369)
Usually, a good moto guy is in front of Hak Huot 1 most times and he won't speak English but will speak Khmer and Thai and he"ll come inside the Hak Huot and you ll be able to translate anything problematic via the desk staff at HH1.
Best move is I'd getting a local guy up by Lucky 369 to get you better acquainted. Enjoy.

Thanks I stayed near Hak Hout but can’t remember if it was 1 or 2. You seem to know Poipet well do you live there if you don’t mind me asking?

No. I did spend some months there in '21, COVID travel ban was initiated and Poipet became a home base for some time. I'm in the US now, I've not been able to track numbers down for my local contacts thus far for you. I'll pm you and feel free to tackle the rest of the contact stuff with me in the relative privacy of pm's. Unfortunately, some of our readership tend toward ill will and we'll fare better without their insolent, prying eyes in this case. I think you'll be able to assist me here also as I made a couple good friends up there that I've since lost touch with. Both of those guys are terrific people to know and you'll be in good hands while there and connected with them. Both are Khmer and Thai speakers, one speaks English well and the other uses Google translate when needed.

I'd just show up and look around on the ground. Ask around and look at For rent signs. Otherwise you would look at Google Maps, and call up hotels and guest houses and ask them.
