Thailand Tourism Ministry strives for 80 million international tourists in 2027
Is it April first already?
i love Thailand and living here, but couldn't imagine a worse place if there were 80 million tourists arriving in a year
https://thethaiger.com/hot-news/tourism ... ts-in-2027In 2022, Thailand welcomed 11.5 million international arrivals, exceeding the Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT)’s target of 10 million. Thailand’s top foreign tourism markets were Malaysia, India, Laos, Cambodia, and Singapore.
Tourism revenue would rise to 5 trillion baht if 80 million people packed their bags and holidayed in Thailand in 2027, according to Tourism and Sports Minister Pipat Racthakitprakarn.
In 2019, Thailand’s tourism industry generated 1.93 trillion in revenue, he added.
If Thailand really wants to double pre-pandemic tourism figures, then the kingdom needs to upgrade to tourism safety standards to accommodate the influx of visitors, said Pipat.
Tourists will pay for the upgrade themselves with the new 300 baht (US$12) ‘tourist tax‘ set to come into force on June 1 this year.

In a nation run by swine, all pigs are upward-mobile and the rest of us are fucked until we can put our acts together: not necessarily to win, but mainly to keep from losing completely. HST

I agree Richard, that's quite a horrifying prospect.

In Thailand, every day can be April 1st, thanks to the Thai government and their tourism advisors.
Enjoy.

To wit . . . Was on Soi Nana (Soi 4, Bangkok)) Tuesday night for the first time in 3-4 years (to eat at friend's resto, Blarney Stone). What a sordid snake pit. You could not squeeze any more punters and tourist couples on the narrow sidewalks and roadway. It was bump and grind just to get back down to Sukhumvit. I wanted to go home and shower immediately. The BTS is packed nearly all day. So yeah, the tourists are back and I've already had enough of them.
