Cambodia News (Phnom Penh): On January 5, 2023, the First Instant Court of Phnom Penh tried a network of eleven Thai, Vietnamese, and Cambodian nationals for drug trafficking over 45kgs of drugs, mainly methamphetamine, at five different locations in Phnom Penh and Banteay Meanchey province in July 2022.
The first location was at the public park on riverside, in front of the Royal Palace on Preah Sisowath Blvd., Sangkat Chey Chumneah, Khan Daun Penh, Phnom Penh.
The second location was in the Queen condominium, room #602 fl.6, St. 308, village 5, Sangkat Tonle Bassac, Khan Chamkar Maun, Phnom Penh.
The third location was in front of Hak Hout 2 Hotel in Samaky Meanchey village, Sangkat Ochrov, Poipet, Banteay Meanchey province.
The fourth location was in house #803 in Samaky Meanchey village, Sangkat Ochrov, Poipet, Banteay Meanchey province.
The fifth location was at a hut in Kilometer 4 village, Sangkat Phsar Kandal, Poipet, Banteay Meanchey province.

The detained suspects were:
-Sok Teng, a 39-year-old Cambodian man
-Sok Kunthea, a 37-year-old Cambodian woman
-Heng Sokun, a 43-year-old Cambodian man
-Teurn Sarum, a 41-year-old Cambodian man
-Mut Sophun, a 32-year-old Cambodian man
-Seng Laty, a 35-year-old Cambodian man
-Set Visal, a 26-year-old Cambodian man
-Chheng Lay, a 26-year-old Cambodian man
-Weeraphat Hun-Grathanapongsorn, a 38-year-old Thai man
-Songwat Bau-Sri, a 30-year-old Thai man
-Lam Hong Phung, a 28-year-old Vietnamese man
The defendents were arrested in several police operations from July 13 to 15, 2022. In accordance with the law, because of the large quantity of drugs seized, the eleven face serving a life sentence in jail if found guilty.
The drugs confiscated by the authorities were 42.858 kg of methamphetamine (ICE), 1.952kg of Ketamine,and 106 capsules of ecstasy (MDMA). The methamphetamine was stored in the traditional South East Asian trademark packages of Chinese tea.

The final verdict and sentences will be pronounced on February 14, 2023.

Hefty Sentences for Three Nation Drug Gang
Eight defendants received sentences of 12 to 30 years in prison each, while three others were acquitted of all charges and released.

Cambodia News, (Phnom Penh): The Phnom Penh Municipal Court on the morning of January 13, 2023 announced the verdict in the case of 11 Vietnamese-Thai-Khmer men and women accused of a traffic of nearly 45 kg of drugs, which took place at five different locations in Phnom Penh and Banteay Meanchey during July 2022:

Location 1. At the riverside park in front of the palace, Preah Sisowath Quay, located in Sangkat Chey Chumneas, Khan Daun Penh, Phnom Penh.
Location 2. At Condo Queen, Room 602, 6th Floor, Street 308, in Village 5, Sangkat Tonle Bassac, Khan Chamkarmon, Phnom Penh.
Location 3. In front of Hak Huot 2 Hotel, located in Samaki Meanchey Village, Sangkat O'Chrov, Poipet City, Banteay Meanchey Province.
Location 4. At house 803, in Samaki Meanchey village, Sangkat O'Chrov, Poipet city, Banteay Meanchey province.
Location 5. At Chamkar hut in Kilometer 4 village, Sangkat Phsar Kandal, Poipet city, Banteay Meanchey province.

The Trial Chamber of the Phnom Penh Municipal Court has sentenced eight of the Cambodian-Vietnamese-Thai defendants to 12 to 30 years in prison each, while three others were found not guilty as charged and have been released immediately on the order of the court.


Mr. Hok Pov, President of the Trial Chamber of the Phnom Penh Municipal Court, pronounced the folloowing sentences:
1/ Sok Toeng, a 39-year-old Cambodian man, was sentenced to 12 years in prison and fined 40 million riel,
2/Sok Kunthea, 37-year-old Cambodian woman sentenced to 12 years in prison and fined 40 million Riel,
3/Heng Sakun, 43-year-old Cambodian man acquitted,
4/Toeun Sarom, 41, Cambodian man jailed 12 years imprisonment and a fine of 40 million Riel,
5/Mot Sophon, male, 32 years old, Cambodian, was sentenced to 25 years in prison and fined 60 million Riel,
6/WEERAPHAT HUN-GRATHANAPONGSORN, male, 38, Thai, sentenced to 30 years in prison and fined 80 million Riel,
7/Seng Lati, male, 35 years old, Khmer, sentenced to 25 years in prison and fined 60 million Riel,
8/Set Visal, male, 30 years old, Cambodian, acquitted,
9/Chheng Lay, 36 years old, Cambodian acquitted,
10/SONGWAT BAU-SRI, 30 years old, Thai, jailed for 30 years
11/LAM HONG PHUNG, a 28-year-old Vietnamese man, sentenced to 12 years in prison and fined 40 million riels



The Trial Chamber judge stated that the convicted defendents were charged with "illegal storage, transportation and trafficking of drugs under Article 40 of the Law on Drug Control."
During the arrests, the Drug Squad officers confiscated :
1. 952 grams of KETAMINE.
2. The main drug seized was methamphetamine (ICE), packaged as Chinese tea, with a net weight of 42 kilograms,858 grams.
3. Ecstasy (MDMA) weighing 106 grams.
The total amount of drugs seized was 44 kilograms, 916 grams.
