Cuba
In Havana now and I’ve never liked a place less.
Would be better if I spoke a bit of Spanish - very few speak English - but that’s not the main issue(s) and I barely know where to begin on that.
I’m starting a Cuba thread for your opinions, experiences or to just ask questions. I hope to turn this trip around before I leave but I wouldn’t bet on it.

Rent a car and drive to Cienfuegos, and pick up hitchikers along the way. I got lost for 5 days driving around the island and had a great time.

Re: Cuba
I have wanted to have a look at Cuba for a long time I will keep an eye on this. For starters what are the average costs IE how much a day would be enough for a place to sleep. local food in cafes and a few beers ?

Find a ghetto, walk straight into it, thank me later!

Re: Cuba
Re: Costs and currency I have some impressions but can much better answer at the end of this trip - now I’m just a few days in. It’s hard not to compare to Cambodia and it’s not even close for costs, convenience and warm and friendly people. But some people keep coming back here - I am still asking “Why Cuba?”
Re: Commie. Cuba was not my first choice but I was unable to find flight destinations that did not transit through USA - the few options that did not were x3 the cost of normal. I was able to come to Cuba without a test or a vaxx card and fly directly.

Re: Cuba
Don't trust your valuables on any hotel safe. Don't trust hotel staff. The place is a shit hole where nobody has the motivation to work. Careful renting any vehicle. An accident could have you stranded for months trying to straighten it out. Read reviews of hotels if you can before you stay. Very enlightening.

Re: Cuba
Had a great time there in 2019. Avoid tourists traps. Cuba was an eyes opener.

Re: Cuba
I love Cuba. I guess its all perspective.
Havana has great music. Even found some good restaurants.
Try taking a couple of days and going to Vinales.
I hope you get to enjoy some aspects of Cuba.

My entire life can be summed up in one sentence:
"Well that didnt go as planned".
