Thailand would be happy to have Cambodia's figures at a relative level to the total population (20M to 70M)

January 1 to December 31, 2022, there were 2,980 traffic accidents, resulting in 1,709 deaths and 4,026 injuries, including 2,579 serious injuries and 1,447 minor injuries.
1709 deaths as a % of 2980 accidents is a fatality rate of 57%
PLUS
2579 serious injuries as a % of 2980 accidents is a serious injury rate of 86%
That means nearly all accidents have either serious injuries or fatalities.
These numbers don't add up. Assuming the deaths and serious injuries are reasonably accurate, the true number of traffic accidents must be much higher.

Is it even a traffic accident if the piggies aren't involved?Doc67 wrote: ↑Tue Jan 03, 2023 1:01 pmJanuary 1 to December 31, 2022, there were 2,980 traffic accidents, resulting in 1,709 deaths and 4,026 injuries, including 2,579 serious injuries and 1,447 minor injuries.

I think the lack of 100% insurance coverage (such as in any normal country) deprives the country of accurate data recording. Most of these prangs are without any injury and settled roadside, often with the "piggies" doing their intermediary activities.Jerry Atrick wrote: ↑Tue Jan 03, 2023 1:08 pmIs it even a traffic accident if the piggies aren't involved?Doc67 wrote: ↑Tue Jan 03, 2023 1:01 pmJanuary 1 to December 31, 2022, there were 2,980 traffic accidents, resulting in 1,709 deaths and 4,026 injuries, including 2,579 serious injuries and 1,447 minor injuries.

Yeah, also I don't think there are any overbearing laws here regarding leaving the scene of an accident etcDoc67 wrote: ↑Tue Jan 03, 2023 1:16 pmI think the lack of 100% insurance coverage (such as in any normal country) deprives the country of accurate data recording. So, unless serious injury or death is a factor they don't get reported by and large

Cambodia Aims to Reduce Road Casualties by 50% by 2030
AKP Phnom Penh, April 07, 2023 --
The Royal Government of Cambodia is committed to reducing road traffic casualties rate by 50 percent by 2030, by decreasing the number of deaths and injuries based on risk factors of road accidents and by increasing the efficiency of road traffic safety work.
This is the aim of the National Plan for the Decade of Action for Road Safety 2021-2030 whose draft was approved by the plenary cabinet meeting chaired by Prime Minister Samdech Akka Moha Sena Padei Techo HE here at the Peace Palace this morning, according to H.E. Phay Siphan, Minister Delegate Attached to the Prime Minister and Head of the Royal Government Spokesperson Unit.
The target areas are Phnom Penh capital, and the provinces of Kandal, Preah Sihanouk, Kampong Cham, Siem Reap, Banteay Meanchey, Kratie, Kampong Thom, Battambang, Pursat, Svay Rieng, Prey Veng, Kampong Speu, Takeo and Kampot.
In about 10 years of implementing the first National Plan for the Decade of Action for Road Safety 2011- 2020, the death toll has dropped to 10.9 per 100,000 people in 2020 and to 10.1 in 2022.
The economic losses due to road accidents were estimated at some US$379.2 million last year, according to a study by experts of the Ministry of Public Works and Transport and the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP).
Major causes of road accidents in Cambodia are excessive speeding, disrespect for the priority rights, drink driving, not wearing helmet, overtaking and turning in dangerous situations, and so on.
