Cambodia News, (Kandal Province): A 36-year-old man became so angry with a woman who refused to return his love, that he attacked her with a knife and attempted to stab her to death, before trying to kill himself.
The above incident happened at 7:30 pm on December 30, 2022 at the victim's rented room in Svay Chrum village, Bek Chan commune, Ang Snoul district, Kandal province.

The man, Meas Sovann, had been trying to go out with Him Sopha, a 36-year-old single woman factory worker for over a year, but the woman was not interested and refused all his invitations. No matter how many times he asked her out, she always said no. The motorbike taximan became very frustrated by the woman's refusals, and then, on the day of the incident, he took a sharp knife, went in to her room, and stabbed the woman until she collapsed in a pool of blood.
Assuming that he had killed his victim, the man then tried to end his life by hanging himself in the kitchen with an electric wire. However, the wire broke, disrupting the power supply, and the man fell on the stove and knocked himself out.


By this time, the neighbors had heard screams and they came to see what was happening in the woman's rented room. They found the woman in a puddle of blood and the man lying unconscious on the kitchen floor, and they immediately called the police. Fortunately, the woman,36-year-old Him Sopha, was not dead from the stabbing, but she had severe wounds to the face, arm and chest and was bleeding profusely. Police called an ambulance to take her to the emergency unit at the hospital where she received 50 stitches, and is still recovering.


Police arrested the attacker, Meas Sovann, confiscated his knife, and locked him up. He will be detained in jail until his trial, while the court prosecutors compile a case of attempted murder against him.
