[quote=A new international airport for Kep and Kampot only?

I have lots of arguments with ppl over the new International Ferry terminal in Kampot, which is significantly impressive, and the amateurish version in Kep, and those that say you can now catch ferries to PQ. For that to happen the Viets need to establish Customs and Immigration on arrival in PQ - why would VN add the expense when they can argue that in 40 mins you can cross at a long established border at Ha Tien and catch multiple ferries to PQ. A few months ago I left Danang and flew to PQ, caught the ferry and crossed the border and was back in Kampot in 5 hrs.
Kampot to PQ is quite shallow water so you need a decent 50 seater for safety and there is no commercial justification for a service more than once a day - where do these passengers come from? They are not likely to be Khmer.

I replied to your post already. You seem to have assumed that I said a lot of things I never did. All I said was that the place was that the place was affected by COVID-19.

Cambodia Announces to Welcome Chinese Tourists
AKP Phnom Penh, January 02, 2023 --
Prime Minister of the Kingdom of Cambodia, Samdech Akka Moha Sena Padei Techo HE, has announced to welcome Chinese tourists to Cambodia without restrictions, as China is going to reopen its borders on Jan. 8.
Samdech Techo HE made the remarks while he and Chinese Ambassador to Cambodia H.E. Wang Wentian were presiding over the groundbreaking ceremony for the construction of a bridge across the Mekong River in Kratie province this morning.
After the reopening, tens of millions or even hundreds of millions of Chinese tourists will travel around the world, including Cambodia, he said.
Before the COVID-19 outbreak, the Premier recalled, Cambodia received more than 2 million Chinese tourists, but due to the pandemic, the number declined remarkably.
For his part, H.E. Ambassador Wang Wentian underlined that China will reopen for its people to travel abroad, and Cambodia will be a most important destination for the Chinese.

Re: Look out, here they come!
The only good news is that Chinese are unlikely to be found in the bars along Sok San, or in the small restaurants and cafes around town, so we just have to stay clear of the main tourist hot spots, Pub street, and souvenir stalls. As it is, with my free Angkor pass I have been to most of the local temples more than once anyway, and won't need to go near them again for a while, and if you've seen one Apsara show you've seen them all.

Chinese group tours return to Cambodia starting Feb 6
May Kunmakara | Publication date 23 January 2023 | 21:15 ICT
[excerpts]
Cambodia is among 20 countries selected by Beijing for a pilot programme allowing travel agencies to provide international group tours as well as flight and hotel packages to Chinese citizens, following a three-year ban.
As the days tick down until the programme kicks off on February 6, local civil aviation and tourism industry insiders are eager to welcome Chinese travellers back into the Kingdom.
This comes amid concerns that soaring Covid-19 cases in China could drive the emergence of new and potentially more dangerous variants of SARS-CoV-2, the coronavirus that causes the disease.
State Secretariat of Civil Aviation (SSCA) spokesman Sin Chansereyvutha told The Post on January 23 that commercial flights between Cambodia and China had begun to pick up since Beijing dumped its strict “dynamic zero-Covid” regime, which imposed a limit of 15 weekly flights in either direction.
Airlines have been requesting to resume flights between the two countries, while asking to keep the same schedules and destinations as before, he confirmed.
Chansereyvutha expects even more flights to be added after the Lunar New Year holidays.
“Prime Minister [HE] has announced that we will welcome Chinese businesspeople and guests to Cambodia. We now have Visa on Arrival, and no longer have Covid-19 barriers like they do in other countries.
“We do not anticipate our country to be the top choice for Chinese tourists, but after embarking on trips to nearby countries … [they’ll] visit us too, and we do expect them to come in large numbers,” he said.
Earlier this month, Minister of Tourism Thong Khong had affirmed to local media that Cambodia is “ready” to welcome back mainland Chinese visitors, presenting an estimate for the 2023 total at about “one million” or a more than nine-fold increase over 2022, which he noted was out of the “3.5-to-four million” foreign arrivals expected this year.
And a few days earlier, Prime Minister HE famously put forth a “two million” aim for mainland Chinese visitors to the Kingdom this year.
Tourism ministry figures show that mainland China accounted for 106,875 of Cambodia’s 2.277 million international visitors in 2022, down from the 2.362 million out of the 6.611 million total tallied in the record-breaking year of 2019.
Of last year’s mainland Chinese arrivals, the majority had their purpose of visit marked as “business”, at 77,595 or 72.60 per cent, followed by “holiday” (28,837; 26.98%) and “others” (443; 0.41%).

PHNOM PENH – As China opens its borders and COVID-19 recedes, Cambodia is expecting Chinese tourists to return again in large numbers.
Chhay Sivlin, president of the Cambodian Association of Travel Agents (CATA), says the presence of Chinese tourists leads to a drop in European tourists. They, however, can be kept apart.
Song Sotheavy: We see that in Cambodia there are rich tourist sites, such as culture, history and nature. What destinations interest the Chinese most?
Chhay Sivlin: The cultural site in Siem Reap is still popular among Chinese tourists and so are the coastal areas. In addition, we have organized a number of ecotourism sites.
Song Sotheavy: We have many tourists from different regions and it is said that when Chinese tourists get there, European tourists start to decline. Are you worried about losing tourists from European countries and what should be the measures in this case?
Chhay Sivlin: We recognize that when Chinese tourists visit any area, European tourists take turns or want to avoid the places with many Chinese tourists because the preferences are different. Chinese tourists like to do things quickly, speak loudly and express their feelings openly, but such expressions can disturb the feelings of other tourists who like to be quiet and speak quietly. The way of traveling is different, so European tourists try to avoid the sites that many Chinese tourists visit.
We, as organizers, are aware of the characteristics of tourists, so we divide areas to prepare different times for both types of tourists to avoid dissatisfaction. And if there are two entrances, we get different groups to use them. We always do this to get round these problems.
Song Sotheavy: The arrival of European tourists is good news for Cambodia, but it is said that Cambodia is their last destination after Thailand and Vietnam. How do you get involved and what kind of tourism potential will CATA promote to the world?
Chhay Sivlin: We recognize that Cambodia has been the last tourist destination in Indochina because we do not have direct flights to Europe. So they have to choose which country they will come to first, such as Vietnam, or Thailand, then they continue to travel to Cambodia.
However, we do a lot of advertising and promoting, especially when the head of state announces the opening of a country. It is a good time for Cambodia as the main regional destination to open up. We have a lot of tourism potential, not just Angkor Wat. We have a lot of things, such as world heritage sites, eco-tourism, our world-class beaches and historical sites. In particular, we Cambodians, are very friendly. Spending only two to three days is not enough to explore the country
