Islands for sale in Cambodia

Cambodia news in English! Here you'll find all the breaking news from Cambodia translated into English for our international readership and expat community to read and comment on. The majority of our news stories are gathered from the local Khmer newspapers, but we also bring you newsworthy media from Cambodia before you read them anywhere else. Because of the huge population of the capital city, most articles are from Phnom Penh, but Siem Reap, Sihanoukville, and Kampot often make the headlines as well. We report on all arrests and deaths of foreigners in Cambodia, and the details often come from the Cambodian police or local Khmer journalists. As an ASEAN news outlet, we also publish regional news and events from our neighboring countries. We also share local Khmer news stories that you won't find in English anywhere else. If you're looking for a certain article, you may use our site's search feature to find it quickly.

Islands for sale in Cambodia

Post by phuketrichard »

Is there anything Not for sale in Cambodia/
Just asking>>>>

Island shopping: Cambodian officials buy up the Cardamoms’ coast

A buying spree by Cambodia’s wealthy and politically connected elites has put the fate of a string of small islands in the balance, affecting the livelihoods of local fishers.
Resort developments threaten the Koh S’dach archipelago’s seagrass and coral ecosystems, which harbor rare and threatened marine life.
Local fishers have also found themselves locked out of their traditional fishing grounds by the developers, leading to a loss of earnings.
This story was supported by the Pulitzer Center’s Rainforest Investigations Network where Gerald Flynn is a fellow.

The tourism development on Koh Ampil’s islands has largely stalled, but the project’s developer – former tourism minister Lay Prohas – requested no boats come within 1km of the islands. Photo by Gerald Flynn/Mongabay.

It's just a matter of time. Mother Nature will set things straight.

They might have flipped them by then, leaving some poor schmuck with a slice of beachfront property, minus the beach.

Like the lakeside stuff, sans lakes. And riverside properties, ot Mean tonle.

I wonder if UT is referring to something more cataclysmic; resulting in preferably less humans?

No, I was referring to nature just doing its thing.

I once lived right on a beach on Koh Chang when Typhoon Linda passed through. The beautiful sandy beach was all dragged out to sea.

Are you sure? I saw some photos a friend took there about a week ago and it looks like there's still a few hectares of mud there.

None of those islands has a beach. It's very difficult to walk around the waters edge.

The logging is to clear land for construction.
