Viktor Bout released from US prison system in exchange with Russia

Yeah, that place out 'there'. Anything not really Cambodia related should go here.

They went through all those pains to coerce Thailand to extradite Bout to the US instead of returning him to Russia, and now they're sending him to Russia themselves in exchange for a 3rd rate athlete-druggie. What a travesty.

And they left Paul Whelan behind.

Yes, an actual hero. It really smacks of weak negotiation skills

With all due respect for Mr. Whelan, because I do sympathize with his situation, but why is it the United States responsibility for his return? He is Canadian with citizenship in Canada, US, UK, and Ireland. Why should this fall solely on the US?

And being court-martialed and issued a bad conduct discharge from the military does not make you a “hero”.

Detained on a US passport which he entered Russia with.Convicted (or framed) of being a CIA spy. Resident of Michigan. UK and Irish passports just by descent.

The UK and Irish have been working on it also - however the Irish and Russians aren't exactly friendly at this time
Family members said Whelan had been told that he had been arrested to be exchanged for a Russian prisoner in the United States, mentioning Konstantin Yaroshenko (who was released in return for American Trevor Reed), Viktor Bout, or Roman Seleznev.[41] On July 27, 2022, it was announced that President Joe Biden had authorized a trade for Whelan and basketball star Brittney Griner, who was arrested in Russia in February on drug charges, in exchange for convicted arms dealer Viktor Bout.[42] After negotiations, only Griner was exchanged for Bout on December 8, 2022. Whelan's brother David Whelan approved of the decision to "make the deal that was possible, rather than waiting for one that wasn’t going to happen.
Probably he will be traded for the third mentioned Russian in the above article

But Canadian none-the-less. Where are they in all this?
Can’t put all this on the US Government.

All I am saying is that I sympathize with the man’s situation, but he is a citizen of four (4) different countries and not a natural-born citizen of the United States, so you can’t blame everything on the US government, because US/Russia relations aren’t good either.

Well I'm calling it that he will be traded eventually for Roman Seleznev.

Another interesting fellow https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Roman_Seleznev
