I know someone who is on a business visa as a freelance writer. But WTF is a freelance writer?. I joined twitter a couple of months ago and I've been writing all sorts of things. Heck, I even write random comments on here sometimes.
The reason the freelance business visa gives me such grief is because when I got it and the work permit, the last who organised it never told me about needing a business licence number and paying tax. Apparently tax time is actually between January and March I think. I just didn't want any hassles when arriving back in the country and going through immigration questioning. I know I probably overthink things, but it's not nice having that worry in the back of your mind, it wears you down. So anyway, I'm back and on a tourist visa and feeling much more relaxed. I might try getting a retirement visa once my letter from Centrelink proving my disability comes through, even though I'm under 55. Peace and thanks for the comments. Private Nuts.

Does your work permit say "Self employed" or "freelance writer" as that will make a difference

I think it said self employed, it expired at the end of the year and so has the business visa. I don't even have the work permit card anymore.

I don't believe you'll get hassled on reentry, I'm "self employed" and have left the country dozens of times in the last 5 years alone and nobody has said anything when coming back. When leaving I was asked to produce a photo or copy of my work permit cards once.
