Motorcycle Thefts in Phnom Penh on the Rise
Heads up. Don't forget to lock your motorbike! Especially if you are in Phnom Penh.
Cambodia News (Phnom Penh) : 5 December 2022-- In recent days, the cases of thieves stealing motorcycles have increased in Phnom Penh, with many victims posting messages looking for their motorcycles on social media.
Therefore, on the afternoon of 2 December 2022, while many victims posted messages searching for motorcycles, criminal police of the Ministry of Interior cooperated with the district police force to launch a large-scale operation to crack down on armed robbers. Police found license plates, motorcycles, and questioned dozens of victims.
However, even though some of the motorcycles with license plates were found, some motorcycle owners are still looking for their motorcycles, stating that the authorities are still investigating.
In a recent example, a woman’s Scoopy 021 motorcycle was left unlocked while she parked it outside a beauty salon where she was working, located next to a traffic light in Toul Tompong. CCTV records show that two thieves on a PCX motorcycle dragged the motorcycle away. Police continue to investigate this theft, as well as many others which have been reported.
