Supreme Court confirms 10 year prison sentence for drug offender

Cambodia News, (Phnom Penh): The Supreme Court on the morning of November 17, 2022, confirmed the verdict of 10 years in prison for a man convicted of drug trafficking in Koh Prak Chas village, Phum Thom commune, Kien Svay district, Kandal province.

Mr. Chiv Keng, Chief Judge of the Supreme Court, said in the courtroom that the convict was named Lok Vannarith, alias Mab, male, 36 years old, false occupation. He was arrested in possession of 81.53 grams of methamphetamine (aka "ice"), on December 11, 2019, in Koh Prak Chas village, Thom commune, Kien Svay district, Kandal province.

In this case, the convict Luke Vannavith was sentenced by the Phnom Penh Municipal Court on November 25, 2020, to 10 years imprisonment and a fine of 40 million Riels to be paid into the state budget, on charges of: "Illegal drug trafficking" according to Article 40 of the Law on Drug Control. This verdict has now been confirmed by the Supreme Court.
