What are your top cities around the world?
The recent comment on Penang and the differences of opinions here got me thinking;
what are your favorite cites ?
Most enjoyable, relaxing, culture, people, parks, food, architecture, scenic, vibrancy, photographic
does not have to have them all
for me, not in any order other than moving east and ones i always enjoy
San Francisco
Washington DC
Paris
Athens
Kathmandu
Calcutta
Mandalay
Luang Prabang
Penang
Hong Kong

In a nation run by swine, all pigs are upward-mobile and the rest of us are fucked until we can put our acts together: not necessarily to win, but mainly to keep from losing completely. HST

Mogadishu? A top city?
Please enlighten us with your reasoning.
The curious really want to know.
There are travel advisories from both the US and Canadian consulates not to go. As recent as November 2.

It’s my personal choice. I don’t have to justify it. If you know you know.newkidontheblock wrote: ↑Sat Nov 12, 2022 11:42 am Mogadishu? A top city?

North American consulates are notorious for issuing spurious alerts. It’s like they are scared of being sued if a tourist stubs their toe on a land mine.

Not really into big cities but lived in and enjoyed several decades ago:
DC
Richmond VA
Boulder CO
Kathmandu
Bangkok (mid-90's; not now)
Also, more recently Vũng Tàu.
As a traveller, I prefer smaller cities. Some that come to mind include:
Harpers Ferry WV
Taos NM
Jaisalmer
Kandy
Gangtok
(these decades ago; may suck now?)
Pakse
(not for everyone; you should probably avoid it)
As for Penang, it was a nice change from Thailand for a few days visa run 30 years ago, but not sure what it's like now.
